Tell us a bit about yourself
Let’s see, my real name is Erin, so feel free to call me that. If you call me E. M., I probably won’t even look up! 🙂 I’m obsessed with murder mystery shows, fairly certain I saw a chupacabra once, and have a 14-year-old senior dog named Max who doesn’t even like me.

Have you always wanted to become an author?
Yes, always! I remember writing my first little story in Kindergarten that the teacher had to transcribe for me. It was titled The Three Witches. All throughout middle school and high school, I was obsessed with reading R. L. Stine (mainly the Fear Street series), so when I first started writing in high school, I wrote books like his.
I was told I should get a real job instead of being a writer, so I went to school to be a Librarian, did that for a few years, but for the past two years, I’ve been writing full-time, and I love every minute of it. I wouldn’t give it up for the world.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?
So, kind of a cool story. I had this running daydream in my head all throughout middle school and high school. In this daydream, I was a famous basketball player. In fact, I was the first and only girl to ever play for the NBA. I placed myself in games, won championships, met Prince William, basically, this daydream was my retreat from the real world. I kept adding layers and layers. Eventually, I didn’t need the daydream so much, but when I thought about this daydream again, I realized what a great story it would make. Instead of putting myself in the NBA though, I put my MC, Tessa, in high school and had her challenge the boys for a spot on the boys’ team.
It’s got a lot of “girl power” aspects to it that I really love. I couldn’t be happier with the way the series turned out. 🙂

What are you working on now?
I actually just released the third and final book to The Ballers of Rockport High series, so I’m just about to start on my next series. The book is titled FREE FALL. It’s about a girl who falls in love with her brother’s best friends, who just so happen to be amazing football players.
Do you have any quirks while writing?
I write in complete silence. I can’t stand any sort of noise while I’m writing. I also write in timed sprints, which helps keep me focused for a certain amount of time with tiny breaks in between.

What are your hopes for the future?
I hope to keep delivering quality books to my readers that they can’t wait to get their hands on. 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?
Keep writing. If it’s what you truly love, keep at it. Research, research, and research. There are always places you can find the information you seek about how to do something specific in the publishing world, whether its ads or book covers, or editing. It’s hard work, it won’t come easy, but it pays off.
