Tell us a bit about yourself

Umm, I don’t now. I’m just a normal person. haha. I’ll try and make it more interesting than my bio. I was eighteen years old the first time I ever saw the beach. I love the feel of clean hardwood floor on my bare feet. I love trees and greenery and the beach. I’m afraid of the deep ocean *shiver* I lived in Hawaii for a time and learned that fact about myself. I could never force myself to go snorkeling because I have a stupid irrational fear of the ocean. My inspiration is Eric Thomas, I’m totally addicted to his kool-aid. My best friend died about 6 years ago and I still haven’t gotten over it. I’m very into positive self talk – I can force myself to do certain things because I talk myself into it. I am a total crossfit junkie. Like seriously, I’m one of those people. haha.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Not at all. I actually wrote poems and stuff when I was a kid but only as a form of expression, not really wanting to publish any of them. But one day I wrote out a paragraph of an idea that popped in my head. I didn’t really do anything with it, just put it aside. One day my hubby read it and encouraged me to keep going. So it’s all because of him that I’m a writer today.

What are you working on now?

Right now, I’ve actually got 3 projects in the works. I have a co-author, Raven Steele, and we’re writing a very gritty urban fantasy series. I love writing it because I get to explore the darker side of myself. It delves deep into the underbelly of the supernatural world, where there’s violence and hatred and lots of fighting. But our characters always manage to find hope and love through it, not only with their love interests but also in their friendships with each other. That’s one thing I really love about this series. It’s not just about magical beings and romance, but about 3 friends who find each other. They all come from a very lonely existence, and through each other they find happiness.

I’m also writing a bully reverse harem, which is really stretching me as a writer! It’s a difficult path to travel – how to write someone who is so unbearably terrible to others and still make the readers fall in love with them. It’s also stretched me because I’ve never written something so character driven. But I’m really enjoying it a lot! I’ve learned how much I love to write such terrible people. I’ve always loved writing grey characters, especially the villains. Making the readers see their motivations and hopefully understanding them. Maybe even liking them a little bit. And this is an extension of that.

The other project I’m working on is super secret but I’ll be announcing it soon! And this one is more just something super fun and easy. It gives me a little bit of a break from all the dark stuff I’m writing.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I go through tons and tons of Mentos gum. Like I buy the bottles in packs and just chew and chew and chew. I also am addicted to cherry Coke Zero and Le Croix sparkling water, haha. I also listen to lots of music while I write, and usually end up with a playlist that speaks to me while I’m writing each book, then I move on to something else when I’m writing a different one. Bose headphones are my jam.

What are your hopes for the future?

A lot of my hopes have to do with my family. I want my kids to grow up and be happy. I can almost say I’ve accomplished my life goals, which is to have a great, loving family. Of course, there are other things I want. I’d love to be able to travel a lot and be financially set. But my main thing is that I hope to always keep my husband happy and my kids close.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Ahh, this is a really hard question because there are a zillion things I could say. I’m trying really hard to think of something inspiring or helpful but really what it comes down is what all the other authors have ever said. You have to sit down and write. There is nothing more important than that.

I guess if I could give 3 pieces of advice that have helped me become more successful, I would say to first, if you want to write something that would sell, then read all the successful books in the genre you want to write. Read all of them, all the time. If you do that, then things will come a lot more naturally.

Second, learn about story structure. It does matter. A lot. I don’t even care if you’re a pantster. The structure of the story is the undercurrent of a good book. I cannot stress that enough. There are ways to structure a book that can still allow for a lot of pant-sing.

Third – and I have to admit that I copied this from Michael Anderle, but I think it’s the most important piece of advice I could ever give (besides to sit down and write) and that is to create characters that readers care about. You can mess up everything else but if your readers don’t care about your character, it won’t matter if you’ve done everything else perfectly.

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

Readers, what can I say? haha. Readers drive me. There is nothing like the feeling of getting a message from someone who is affected by your books. I had a reader tell me that she was so inspired that she went back to school to learn how to be a writer. Other people wrote to me about how my books helped with their struggles, or help them forget the constant pain that they’re in. I love that kind of thing. Maybe it’s selfish or egotistical, but that kind of thing is like pure gold to me

Author Adrienne Blake #interview

Please give a warm welcome to Adrienne Blake

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name’s Adrienne Blake. Born in London, I moved to the States in 2001 and soon got into my writing groove. I have a number of published books, writing across the genres although right now, I’m loving my UF series. I’ll talk about that in a moment.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Writing is in my blood – you could bury me deep in the ground away from the world and I’d still be compelled to write stories. I guess it’s a conscious decision to publish – that’s something else, and yes, I always dreamed of people recognizing me as an author. Thinking about it gives me the tingles.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I wrote a few silly UF shorts. I’d been writing Alien fiction at the time, and my PA, Pike Perrie, said though the old stuff was good, fantasy was definitely my forte. And so it began….

What are you working on now?

The Misty Cedars series is somewhat unique. It follows the adventures of Holly, a woman who is attacked by a vampire and accidentally finds herself in the land of the supernatural. Mischance follows mischance, and her body changes into a series of supernatural beings as the series progresses.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I edit in red-roller ball. I use a new one for every new book. No other pen will do – it’s a thing.

What are your hopes for the future?

I want my books on the best-selling shelves of Barnes and Noble. And a cure for cancer.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Stay true to your dream. Don’t be sidetracked by somebody else’s.

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I think they’re wonderful – and love finding out what they want from me. They’re free to drop in to my FB group anytime for a chat. I’m there every day, much more than I should be, along with other authors and friends. Stop by with a coffee.

Wicked Adrienne’s Angels

A slight breeze caught her red hair, and she ran her hands through her silky curls, which were sleeker than before. She raised her hands onto the top pane of glass and pushed against the frame, closing her eyes as she allowed the night to circle her body and invade her pores. She felt glorious, and very much one of the living. Surely what Noah had told her was wrong. Not that she thought he would lie to her, but perhaps he was mistaken.

“You’re very beautiful.”

The sudden sound made her start and turn, but she didn’t cover herself up. Holly wanted Noah to see her, just as she was now. She needed him to. At this moment, the only thing that mattered was to feel like a woman.

Yet, Noah never moved from the doorway. His eyes were fixed on her face, but he made no sign of making a move on her. Slowly, conscious of the gentle sway of her hips as she advanced, she crossed the room. Just inches away from him, she stood silent for a moment, her eyes reading his desire, sensing he wanted her as much as she needed to be wanted. But still he did not move to touch her.

Holly cast her eyes provocatively down her body, then with the backs of her fingers, ran a hand down from her shoulder, across her breast, where it lingered on her nipple, then traced along the crease of her bosom, circling back and forth suggestively.

Noah wanted her, she not only sensed it, but she could smell it. The scent of his longing was as clear as if he’d conveyed his desire on a written note. Noah’s pupils were dilated, and she could almost feel his shallow breaths as his own lungs betrayed him.

She took a step forward, and clasping his hand in her own, placed his open palm on her breast. The sense of another’s touch sent a jolt of desire through her body. Holly threw her head back, closed her eyes and gasped. Every part of her, every fiber of her being was hungry for him. Still, Noah didn’t move. He did nothing to remove his hand, but at the same time, made no attempt to advance the situation on his own.

She licked her lips and raised his hand to her mouth, kissing the tips of his fingers and his palm, then when she had kissed them all, she pushed his index finger into her mouth and started to suck it suggestively. Noah was entranced, his own lips parted, and he closed his eyes tight shut, trembling as her tongue worked its magic on his fingers. Holly now moved so close that Noah’s chest hair brushed her nipples, and that small contact sent violent shivers southward, making her pant with bold desire.

Her gaze locked with his, and Holly sensed a new power she knew no earthly human would be able to overcome. She raised her hands to his shoulders, then slowly traced down the outline of his arms, up over the soft hairs on his chest, caressing the circles of his nipples with just the lightest touch of her fingers. Then down and down her fingers crept, like a black widow slowly closing in on its prey. Yes indeed, no human could resist her now. Her hands clasped the top of his jeans.

But Noah wasn’t just any human. In that moment, he brushed her hands aside and put his own on her shoulders, not to press her forward, but merely to keep her from advancing further.

“I’m sorry, Holly,” he said. “But this cannot happen.”

The longing was still strong in her, and she tried to press forward, but his grip was firm.

The spell was broken.

With everyone thinking I was angry, I was taking a wild guess that it would be at least thirty minutes before anyone realized I was gone. That was a good head start. From the vague vibe I was feeling from Jess and the other traitors, I was looking at covering a distance of about four miles. I ran that nearly every morning, and the time it took to get there would allow my wolf and me time to figure out what we were going to do when we got there.

Cutting the bitch was what my wolf wanted to do, and I couldn’t honestly say that I wasn’t on board with that plan, but I was smart enough to know that I couldn’t take on eight werewolves on my own. I would have to find their hideout and come back with my pack. Bringing Phoenix and his clan to watch my back in case any of my wolves were really on Jessica’s side was a smart thing to do, so I would let them come, too, not that I would really get a choice in the matter; I doubted he would stay behind even if I begged him to.

A loud clatter had my head whipping around to look behind me again. An aluminum trash can lay on its side, its contents spilling into the street. A tabby cat peeked around the edge of the torn trash bag and I exhaled in relief. I was a sad case, indeed. I laughed at myself. I was not used to being the monster.

“I aim to change that, Mena.”

I rolled my eyes at my wolf. “You just be you and let me be me and we’ll get along just fine.”

Soft laughter filled my head and I had to smile. I had to admit that I liked her, regardless of how much trouble she was causing me with Phoenix. At least we had come to a compromise. I didn’t know how well said compromise was going to work out, or even if it would at all, but I was willing to try. Everyone deserved a shot at happiness, even with as insane as our case may be.

As I turned my head back around to continue on my journey, I ran smack-dab into the hard chest of a man. He was in shadow, so I couldn’t see his face. Stumbling back, I attempted to get my balance, but his arms closed tightly around my body, jerking me to him and trapping my arms down at my sides so I couldn’t move.

Struggling against his solid hold on me, I opened my mouth to let out a scream, but he twisted me around and clamped a hand over my mouth so fast that I didn’t know what was happening until I was being pulled backward, away from the security of the streetlights that lined the suburban road.

I raised my knee up then brought my foot down hard on the toe of his shoe. He let out a muffled grunt, but continued to drag me into the shadows.

This had to be one of the werewolves. The strength alone told me that. They had to have been watching my house, just waiting for me to leave. This bastard was going to kill me if I didn’t do something.

My wolf stirred under my skin. She wanted out and it was the first time since I’d been bitten that I agreed with that plan. With only a little more than human strength and quick reflexes, it wasn’t possible for me to handle a grown male werewolf on my own.

My final option, before letting my wolf free, was try to at least injure him. I hoped that would be enough to make him loosen his grip on me enough so I could run. If he gave chase, I would have to concede and let my wolf take over.

Gripping the dagger tighter in my palm, I rotated my wrist and drove the blade into his side as hard as I could. An ear-piercing ululation erupted from his throat and he let go of me. I didn’t wait or look back. I ran as fast as my legs would carry me, adrenaline and my wolf giving me the speed and strength to push my muscles past what a human would be able to endure.

“Mena… Mena!” I heard the cry behind me, but my mind wasn’t registering anything except panic and the need to get as far away from my attacker as possible. “Mena—wait! It’s me…” A strangled groan had me slowing. “…it’s… it’s Phoenix. I—I’m so sorry, Mena.”

I froze, not wanting to look back at the man, terrified that what he’d spoken was true. If it was—if I turned and saw those ice-blue eyes staring back at me, it would destroy any trust I had ever had in him.

“Please, Mena, I never meant to hurt you. I was only trying to scare you so you would realize what a stupid stunt going off on your own to find the killers was. What were you thinking?”

The blood rushed through my veins at an impossible speed, and fury washed over me in waves as I stood there trying to decide whether to walk away or allow my wolf to rip Phoenix’s head off. She was all for the second option.

I heard him cough, and then groan in agony. I imagined he was pulling the dagger out of whatever organ I had been lucky enough to hit. There was a lot of heavy, ragged breathing and two more guttural-sounding coughs. It appeared as though I had hit a lung. Too bad it wasn’t his heart! I wasn’t sure stabbing him in the heart with a silver blade would kill him, but I would have put money on a bet that it would have been a hell of a lot more painful.

I turned my head to glare at him, but the hatred I had expected to feel wasn’t there. He had fallen to his knees, and his head was bent, his eyes focused on the bright red stain spreading across his new shirt.

Shaking my head, I looked up to the sky and asked, “Why me?” After receiving no answer, I sighed and began the one-hundred-meter walk back to Phoenix.
