Tell us a bit about yourself…

I am a Southern girl through and through. I have lived my whole life in Alabama and at this point don’t have plans to leave. I am still teaching during the days and hopping to use the summer to knock out several first draft projects. I have two dogs: Gracie, a yorkie mix, and Luna, a Coton de Tulear/Havanese mix. When I’m not writing or reading I enjoy spending time outside: swimming, hiking, or gardening.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I have been writing stories since high school but never thought what I wrote was worth sharing. Luckily the MDL ladies are helping me see otherwise.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Last November, one of the girls from the Silver Springs neighborhood set up a fanfiction challenge for National Novel Writing Month. I decided to join and have fun creating stories again. When the Moonlit Falls competition opened, I honestly didn’t plan to apply. One of the women in charge reached out to ask if I was planning on submitting anything because she had read my fanfiction. (Thanks Dolly!) After looking for some photo inspiration, I found a girl who had a story to be told and decided to shoot my shot. Luckily it worked in my favor this time.

What are you working on now?

I am getting the final edits of Moonlit Garnet finished as well as working on Briar’s story for the Fearless anthology (MF contemporary Romance) and want to finish All for Being Normal (PNR MF romance) this summer.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I love to watch crime shows or medical shows while I’m writing. I can’t watch trivia shows or I forget to write and just answer all the questions.

What are your hopes for the future?

I’m hoping to be able to publish multiple books a year and to one day publish a co-write with a more established author.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Ask all the questions. Every author I’ve reached out to has been more than willing to help recommend editors and proofers and to explain the process. I’ve also had some offer their groups to find alpha, beta, and arc readers. So don’t let the fact that they are established intimidate you, they remember what it’s like to be just starting out.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m just a small-town girl. Hailing from Arkansas, I spend most of my time wrangling my two toddlers and hanging out with my mom. I’m a firm believer in the use of finger guns and the phrase “cool beans.” I am definitely hip with all the cool kids. If you want to befriend me, I can be bribed with Dr. Pepper and gummy candies. I’ve always loved books and the side character Biff Hooper from the Hardy boys series was my first book boyfriend. I have plans to write in multiple genres, but the people in my head are crazy, so I’ll have to see where they take me

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I don’t think I have always wanted to be an author. I always hated writing essays in school, and my high school English teachers never really had a lot of faith in me. I have always loved reading though and I thought that people that wrote books were amazing. I was first struck with the inspiration to write in 2018. I went to my first ever book convention. Penned Con in St. Louis. I met several of my favorite authors and the author that got me into Indie books. I am normally very shy, but I felt so comfortable with all of the people I met and talked to. I instantly wanted to immerse myself in this community. On the way home after the convention, I told my husband that I wanted to write a book. It took me a couple of years to get going. I would have an idea, but wouldn’t write it down and then forget. Or I would write something down, and then stop because I didn’t want to make time to develop it. It wasn’t until late last year that things changed.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I saw the 13th jewel contest in Silver Springs and I almost decided to enter, but I didn’t have any confidence in myself. After it was over, and they announced the winner, I felt regret. Then the Moon Dust Library contest came up. I thought about skipping it too. I waited until right at the deadline and I told myself “If you do this and don’t get picked, then so what? Nothing in your life will change and you at least tried. But what if you do get chosen?” I didn’t even read all the rules. (oops, sorry guys) I just jumped right in. I wrote almost four thousand words in almost four hours and submitted my info. When I got the message that my entry had been selected, I believe my exact words were “I think I’m going to throw up.” The MDL ladies have been my inspiration. They’ve helped me find myself. I am more confident in who I am now than I was when I started this journey, and I think they play a large part in that.

What are you working on now?

Right now I am working on my short story for the Fearless Anthology. It’s an amazing anthology about strong women who struggled, fought, and survived. My story will be a prequel to my Moonlit Falls book. I also have Citrine’s second book mostly planned out and would like to release it around Christmas time. I have another anthology scheduled for next May ( it will definitely be paranormal but I haven’t decided if it’s gonna be RH or not.) and I have a couple of other projects that are in their very beginning phases. One is another paranormal reverse harem and the other is MF contemporary rom-com. Next year is looking pretty busy!

Do you have any quirks while working?

HAHAHA! Yes! A few. I have eaten a crap-ton of candy since January. If I’m writing, I’m probably snacking on some sort of gummy candy. My current favorite is sour lifesavers, but I’ll probably burn out on them soon if I keep eating them at this rate. I get distracted easily, and eating helps me focus. While I’m on the subject of distractions, I have to put my phone away and I can’t have any noise while I’m working. I also write the best at my desk staring at a blank wall. It’s all or nothing with this brain. Also, when I’m stuck on something or having problems with a character or scene, I take a shower. Shower thoughts with Emmy should be a podcast. I actually completely rewrote Citrine three times because of ideas I had in the shower. It looks nothing like my original entry, and the MDL ladies have banned me from taking showers more than once. (Don’t worry, I didn’t quit taking showers. I love them too much.)

What are your hopes for the future?

I don’t know what the future holds, but I really hope this writing thing works out for me. I hope people love Citrine as much as I do and they feel like they can follow me on my new journey. I’ve discovered a new love, and I don’t really want to stop. I think I’ve found my calling.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

I am not good at giving advice, but I will say this. Find your crew. Doing this is so much better with other people. I don’t think I would have been able to finish Citrine’s story so quickly if it wasn’t for my girls. They pushed me and helped me when I wanted to give up. I don’t know a lot about the publishing world yet, but I’m not as scared as I would be if I was doing this completely alone.

If I have any… No, I’m kidding. Seriously, I love you guys. This community is the reason I even wanted to be an author. Don’t quit being you, because you are the best dang group of people in the world!

Author Elle Lee #MoonlitFalls #interview

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m 24 years old and currently live in Colorado. I have a Corgi-Mini Australian Shepherd mix named Peanut. In addition to being a new author, I’m also a medical student.

Some things about me are I like to write sweet and funny romances that always give my characters a happily ever after. I’m a huge soda addict and dessert queen. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me outdoors or spoiling my dog.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I have always loved reading books, and when I was younger, I dabbled in writing short stories. I was never confident that my writing was good enough, but it gave me an escape from reality as I pursued a career in medicine. Now that I have this opportunity to it’s surreal that I’m an author.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I love reading the books of Silver Springs Library, and when Mia sent an email about the opportunity to write in her spin-off series, it was something I couldn’t pass up. When I sat down to write Moonlit Jade, I wanted to draw experiences from my own life, so Jade has a little bit of me in her.

What are you working on now?

I’m still finishing up Moonlit Jade to get her ready for release, but I’m also working on a contemporary short story for the Fearless Charity Anthology.

Do you have any quirks while working?

When I’m writing, I need to have a soda and candy next to me. I think the sugar helps my brain work, or I’m just running on a sugar high.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope everyone enjoys reading Moonlit Jade. I wanted to make Jade a character people could relate to and find connections with their own lives. I plan to continue writing and publishing my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

There is a lot of work that goes into publishing your work, and the easiest part is writing. The hard part is the social media aspect. Make sure you’re interacting and respectful to your audience because they are the ones supporting your dreams. But other than that, if you want to start publishing your work, do it. Don’t let anyone stop you or convince you otherwise.

Author Roseyk Klayborn #MoonlitFalls

Tell us a bit about yourself…

Roseyk Klayborn lives in Colorado with her dog Bella, who loves to go on long walks in the woods. She also whines a lot when her human doesn’t walk fast enough.

Roseyk prefers staying inside working on one of her many hobbies, often reading or writing.
She spent most of her childhood with a book in one hand, a notebook in the other, and a pencil in her ear.

Ballroom Dancing took over much of Roseyk’s later teenage years before she rediscovered her love of writing and entered into a life changing contest to become an author in the Moon Dust Library world.

Now, you will find Roseyk trying to write like crazy, researching, doing a ton of procrastinating, and sharing lots of random memes.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

When I was around eight years old, my brother and I took some writing classes. After that I hardly went anywhere without a notebook and a pencil stuck behind my ear. I don’t know that I really thought about becoming an author, it was more that I had all these friends in my head who wanted to come out and play.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Umm. My Book Bestie and I were tossing out ideas when I found out they were looking for authors. I don’t really know what my inspiration is for this book.

What are you working on now?

So much! Moonlit Danburite is my main focus, plus I’m doing a charity anthology in September, so those are the main two. But I have several ongoing series that will eventually be published.

Do you have any quirks while working?

Not that I know of? I haven’t really thought about it.

What are your hopes for the future?

To write lots of books. I just have so many ideas, and even if nobody likes them, I still want to get them out in the world.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Learn as much as you can, find other people who you can get support and encouragement from, and try not to stress too much. You’ve got this.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I am a workaholic coffee lover currently living in Southern California. I spend my free time binge reading through my TBR then telling my Betta Fish Boo about said books.🐠 I also have way too many plants, love watching anime and k-dramas, and creating unrealistic expectations over fantasy men I can’t have.😂

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I have always written poems,songs, books and stories but It wasn’t until this past year that I gained the courage to start sharing them with the world.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I adored the original Silver Springs series that this series shares a Universe with and I simply couldn’t resist the chance to write about a person in that world.

What are you working on now?

I am finishing Moonlit Diamond while writing a story for Fearless which is a charity Anthology with some amazing fellow authors.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I tend to bounce Ideas off my fish. I also write a lot of my stories while I am laying in bed. I don’t know why, but the second I lay down stories just flow.

What are your hopes for the future?

Release more of my stories to the world!

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Step one is write, write, write, write. It will never become a book if you don’t make it happen.

Authors Mia Harlan and Eva Delaney #MoonlitFalls #interview

Tell us a bit about yourselves…

Eva: Mia is married to a vampire and has a mini-vampire, who is very cute.

Mia: First of all, NOT a Vampire. But yes, our mini-MORTAL is very, very cute.

Eva: Lies! If he’s not a vampire, why do we never see photos of him?

Mia: It’s perfectly normal for people to dislike having their pictures taken. Plus, you’re a vampire, and there are pictures of you, sooo….

Eva: You’re projecting! Just because my fridge is full of jars of red liquid doesn’t make me a vampire. That is juice, not blood!

Mia: My Not a Vampire loves tomato juice, too. But he’s not the one who’s up at all hours of the night!

Eva: How would you know if I’m up all night unless you are too? We wrote Nephrite until 2am every night.

Mia: That was fun! And a good way to keep you from hunting humans.

What was your inspiration for Nephrite?

Mia: Eva and I came up with it on a park walk. It was freezing out and pitch dark, but that was the only way the two of us could get together during quarantine.

Eva: It sucks that the sun sets at 4pm in the winter, which was why it was dark on our walks.

Mia: *cough* vampire *cough*

Eva: You still have all your blood, don’t you?!

Mia: Friends don’t bite friends?

What are your plans for the Silver Springs universes?

Eva: To keep launching new series as long as people keep reading them.

Mia: I really hope people keep reading them. They’re so much fun to write!

Do you have any quirks while working?

Mia: Well, as you know, Eva writes all night long because VAMPIRE.

Eva: As you know, Mia also writes all night because she’s married to a vampire. She needs to be awake at night or she’ll never see him.

Mia: NOT a vampire. One quirk we had while writing Moonlit Nephrite was we’d take ten minute breaks and disappear for an hour and a half. But then it’s much harder for Eva to hunt down dinner.

Eva: I assumed those long breaks were because Mia had to recover after her husband bit her.

Mia: That kind of biting has nothing to do with vampires.

What are your hopes for the future?

Eva: To write in cafes again.

Mia: Definitely that. I miss it so much.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Eva: Publish sooner rather than later. I’ve been writing for most of my life, but only started publishing a few years ago. I wish I had started earlier.

Mia: Make friends with other authors! If we hadn’t done that, Silver Springs and Moonlit Falls wouldn’t exist.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

Eva: Thanks for your support! We only get to do this because of you.

Author TL Hamilton #MoonlitFalls #interview

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I live in Melbourne, Australia with my hubby and two boys. I’ve had a bit of an interesting career road to becoming an author, having served in the Australian Navy for a decade and a half, then becoming an addiction counsellor before finally pulling up my big girl pants and committing to what I have wanted to do all along. I swear too much, drink too much coffee, and will try anything once, which has led to quite a few interesting adventures over the years.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I am a life long bibliophile, and started writing my first story when I was 13. Even when I was letting life get in the way, I took the odd writing course and I have so many half finished manuscripts on my hard drive that I am in danger of having to find some form of immortality to share all of my characters and story ideas with everyone.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I was lucky enough to be accepted to write in the Moonlit Falls multi-author series, a spin off of the Silver Springs universe. I find inspiration in the most random places, but for Alexandrite, the inspiration came from the gem itself. A colour changing gem, which made me think of polar opposites – like a virgin succubus.

What are you working on now?

Moonlit Alexandrite is ready for the editors. It is a paranormal, reverse harem romcom, and I am so excited to introduce Lex and her mates.

I’m now on the first draft for my next two books, Feel Me, which is a darker paranormal reverse harem; and Shatter, an enemies to lovers sports romance.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I find it 1000 times easier to write in sprints. Even though I will continue to write after the timer has finished, something about the ticking clock makes the words come better.

I also have a lovely desk setup that I never use, because I keep parking myself on a floor cushion at my coffee table. No, it’s not comfortable, but it’s where I keep ending up.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope Lex is well received and readers will trust me enough to follow me through a few different genres because these stories want to be written. More generally speaking, I hope that romance will one day have the respect it deserves from the wider literary community. I am so proud to write in this genre, and hate to hear people speak poorly of it.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Just start. Write the book. Find other authors and build a community. I can honestly say I have met the most lovely people in the indie author community. Most are only too happy to answer questions you may have and help you on your journey. There’s a thousand other things you will hear along the way and you can choose what works for you and what doesn’t, but if you have an opportunity to connect with others, do it.

Moonlit Falls #amreading

Welcome to Moonlit Falls

Please give a warm welcome to author Z Xanxar. She’s going to tell us how a bunch of debut authors came together to create Moonlit Falls.

Last summer, Silver Springs Library (organized by Mia Harlan and Eva Delaney) held a competition to become the 13th Jewel. Their first season in Silver Springs was Jewels Cafe, where FMCs with names of Jewels would be hit with a mate spell and find their fated mates.

To enter the competition, you had to be a newbie author, who had never published anything under any pen name. You had to make a story line, submit character descriptions and make a story sample. A reader panel made out of authors and readers went through all the samples and gave them scores. They ended up with roughly 25 participants.
Some had made a chat and was talking about doing this. What they were feeling, how they interpritated this or that. And the anxiety in actually doing this. It was an awesome community, yes, I was a part of it and I did submit my sample.

Silver Springs had a hard time deciding on who should win. They ended up picking 2 winners and not just one. The first book is actually releasing in their second season, Spell Library. Lotus, written by Nikki Jacks is releasing later this month.

A LOT! of the ladies from the chat was committed to keep writing and had several ideas flying all over the place. Some were moving rather fast – faster than was practical. I tried to get them to calm down a bit and together with Serafina Luna Brodie and Dolly Kalasin, we took up the torch. We asked if the rest of them would be ok with us taking lead and they were.
I then reached out to Mia Harlan to ask her if she would be willing to share a few pointers on how to lead a group of authors in such a shared universe.
The outcome of that simple question had me on an adrenaline high for hours that evening! Within 3 sentenses, Mia had throw up the idea to make a franchise of Jewels Cafe. Set in a completely new town with her and Eva writing the first book where their FMC would open up a new cafe with the help of Julian, Amber andothers from Eva’s and Mia’s Jewels Cafe books.

This was a start of Moon Dust Library and the town of Moonlit Falls. Dolly, Luna and I are the organizers behind the whole series. We put up, not a contest, but something similar to the 13th Jewel contest Silver Springs had made. Close to the same criterias.

5. A funny sample

We had 20 submissions. and needed 8 or 9 authors. December, going through all the samples and picking out the best ones, was rough. I’m not even going to go into detail on the final hours before we hade to message the ones we ended up picking – it was chaotic to say the least! But we have ended up wit an amazing bunch of ladies, who are writing cool RH rom-com books for this very first season.
Mia and Eva have been our support crew through all of this. Taking us through so many things and helping us above and beyond! They are truly amazing!

Mia and Eva are co-writing Moonlit Nephrite (their first co-write ever) and kicking off the series with that. Then we follow with 12 debut authors each doing their own book. To see how the ladies have come together. How they work together and how they make the most of everything, has been an awesome experience for all of us. I am looking so much forward to reading the rest of the books. Most are done or very close to it. There are a tonne of cameos between the books and most have even worked in characters they plan to use in future seasons.

Being one of the organizers, I can tell, it takes A LOT of time to make things like these shared universes come together. I had an idea it was much and even thought I was realistic about my expectations, but nope. It takes SO much more LOL
I am happy I am releasing last in the series, because it gives me a bit more time to keep things on track while the others finish up.

I am sure each of the ladies will have their own versions of how they ended up in Moon Dust Library, but in the big picture, the above is really the way Moon Dust Library was born. – I am SO happy I found my courage and asked Mia Harlan a few nervous questions 😀
