๐ŸŒŸ Mercy Desimone ๐ŸŒŸ

Bio:

Youngest of 6. Voracious reader, coffee drinker, cocktail enthusiast, beauty junkie, traveler and cat mom. Self professed champagne snob, fluent in Schoolhouse Rock, small craft gin, and overall Queen of useless trivia.

My idols have always been authors, chefs and musicians. In a perfect world, I would have my own talk show where I’d invite a great chef to cook for us, my favorite musician to play for us, and we’d all sit down with one of my favorite writers for great food, music, and conversation.

Reading is fundamental. At least that’s what they told us as kids. What they didn’t tell us is that reading is an escape from the world – a journey, an exploration, an adventure, and a jumpstart into a broader world of imagination that we build for ourselves. For me, there’s nothing better than immersing myself into a world that I wish existed, whether as a reader or as a writer, and exploring what the world could be if only we had the courage to try.

๐ŸŒŸ Marta Moran Bishop ๐ŸŒŸ

Bio:

Marta Moran Bishop is the product of three generations of women writers. Their legacy to her was an inquisitive mind and a joy of writing and reading. She reads to children and adults alike taking her books from children’s classes to senior centers.

Her first book, Wee Three: A Mothers Love In Verse, a children’s poetry book, illustrated by Hazel Mitchell, was a collaborative effort and a labor of love. She took the short, sweet verses her grandmother wrote in the nineteen thirty’s for her children and expanded those and added additional verses of her own.

Ms. Bishop, is a prolific and versatile writer, she currently has two children’s poetry books, Dinky: The Nurse Mare’s Foal, which is based on the true story of her rescue foal and written from his point of view and is enjoyed by both children and adults alike.

Her novel The Between Times, tells the story of a bleak world, where society consists of the poor and the rich and the poor live in squalor, with only a prophecy for hope of a better future. It has a touch of paranormal in its pages.

She has written three adult poetry books and a variety of fantasy and paranormal stories. A few of them are stories that her mother wrote over forty years ago and she finished while others are new and vibrant stories.

She states “I learned that one needed to have a plot and conversation to move the story forward from a particularly bad play I wrote at the age of six. It was the worst play ever written or performed. It was so awful my mother stopped the production after about three minutes.”

She currently lives on a small farm in Massachusetts with her husband, three horses, cats and a conure parrot named Beau. They help her remember to view the world through a child’s innocence and keep her young and imaginative.

๐ŸŒŸ Lilly Griffin ๐ŸŒŸ

Bio:

Hi! My name is Lilly Griffin. My goal is to bring you the reader a fun and enjoyable experience. It may take me a few times but I hope to get there one day. There are so many fabulous authors in the world, and I strive to be one of them someday.

My day job is in the accounting field, or bean counting if you prefer, so that may put me at a disadvantage from the word go. Time will tell! I have two wonderful children that have grown-up into loving adults. My husband has backed me the whole way on my journey into writing my first novel. Although, he does tease me mercilessly because nine times out of ten I look for books with female leads. So, I, of course, have a female lead in my first book go figure with lots of love interests, fighting, drama, and adventures.

My favorite hobby is of course to read. I have been an avid reader since I was twelve years old. I used to sneak into my mom’s room to find a book to read. I think my first book was Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey, that was when my love of fantasy was born. I have wanted to write stories since I was in the 5th grade but never had the courage until now. I hope you enjoy my first book in the Koci Hybrid Series with more to follow.

Author Miki Ward #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Miki Ward Tell us a bit about yourself

Iโ€™m older than most of the authors that Iโ€™m friends with and am a grandmother. Thatโ€™s actually a plus because I use my fantastic grandchildren as inspiration and ask them lots of questions about teens and young peopleโ€™s behavior. I grew up in Carlsbad, NM, a small town in the dead middle of nowhere. It was a close-knit community and close to the Carlsbad Caverns also great inspiration for the books that I write with my brother Garrett Ward. Living in a small town we had to find stuff to do for fun and onceโ€ฆ do you know that scene in Footloose when the female lead jumped from one moving truck to anther? They copied me. I really did that, and it was easy, again great inspiration. Iโ€™m married to a wonderful man who loves me so much I never have to question it. Iโ€™ve been a carhop, a fountain girl, a secretary, a welder, a quality control engineer, a non-destructive testing inspector, and a lead nuclear auditor. Now I have my dream job as an author. Iโ€™m not perfect and work on myself constantly. One thing I really like to do is build others up and I try hard to remember to do that instead of thinking of myself all the time.

ยฐ

ยฐ

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Since I was in junior high and read SE Hinton. My brothers and I used to say constantly as kids we should write the stuff we made up down, yet never did until we got older.

ยฐ

ยฐ

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Like most of my books it is based on my own experiences and family life. Many of the things in those stories are something weโ€™ve seen first-hand or heard from passed down stories. In fact, all of our stories have a lot of real experiences in them just changed to fit in the story lines.

ยฐ

ยฐ

What are you working on now?

Four different books at once. Our Shivers series is about teens facing the paranormal and we have finished the first draft of book two and are cleaning it up for the editor. It wonโ€™t publish until September if it is still acceptable for Covey Publishing to be added to the Falling for Them anthology. Iโ€™m also finishing a short story for my own anthology called Celebration of Love. It will publish for the fourth of July and includes two wonderful new authors and a couple that are seasoned. The third is the third book in our Ceorfan Gargoyles Series called Hewn. Iโ€™m just getting into it and it will take me a while to finish. The last is a surprise anthology that I have a story I cowrote with another author friend.

ยฐ

ยฐ

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I go to bed thinking of the book Iโ€™m on and dream about it. Then I get up and write the chapters I dreamed with lots of coffee and music.

ยฐ

ยฐ

What are your hopes for the future?

I have so many, but writing has changed my little brotherโ€™s life I want to keep him busy. He finds purpose in our writing. Also, if I can touch just one person and make them have a better day or rest and if they remember to love themselves Iโ€™ll be happy.

ยฐ

ยฐ

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

So much! Do your own thing and donโ€™t pattern yourself after anyone else, be original, and write what you know. Yes, you will need examples and mentors but be yourself. When you get a nasty review understand that the reader is usually writing about themselves. If they have had a circumstance that makes them hate chocolate and your whole book is about chocolate and they say they hated it, that comes from their own likes and really has little to do with you. There are a few reviewers who see art for art and gauge that way if they say something you can learn from use it, but the fact is you canโ€™t please everyone. Everyone has different tastes and itโ€™s best not to let a bad review hurt you. Rant at me for a while if you need a shoulder until you get over it. If you like your book thatโ€™s what counts. The more you write the bigger your writing muscles will be. One more thing donโ€™t be afraid to try something new. It might surprise you that you enjoy something you didnโ€™t think you would.

ยฐ

ยฐ

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I say it in my books and I mean it. You are my prize. You prop me up constantly when I need a lift. I love you and pray for you all. One day maybe I can meet a few of you in person and tell you, โ€˜Wings Up!โ€™
