Author Kaydence Snow #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Kaydence Snow

Tell us a bit about yourself

I live ten minutes from the beach in Australia. English is my third language. I have an elderly Beagle named Daisy and a husband – they’re constantly vying for my attention. I enjoy good food, good coffee, good books and good company. Life’s too short for anything less!

Have you always wanted to become an author?

No. I grew up being taught that a good education and a good, steady job were important. Those things are certainly important but it meant that my view of what is a ‘real’ job was very narrow. Being an author wasn’t serious enough. Eventually I came to accept that this is what I was meant to do all along and I love it.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I can’t say it was any one thing. I’m inspired by the world around me, by other stories and by my own imagination. I love this genre and simply wrote the book I wanted to read.

What are you working on now?

I’m finishing off the first draft of Vivid Avowed (Evelyn Maynard book 3) and starting to flirt with a new project.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Not really. I do need silence to get the words out but music is helpful when plotting.

What are your hopes for the future?

I just want to keep writing books that people hopefully enjoy reading. I’m living my dream right now and I don’t want to change a thing!

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Never stop learning. Be open to constructive criticism and learn from those who have come before you – they are a fountain of knowledge. Keep learning about your craft, try new techniques for character development, world building, editing etc. Educate yourself about the publishing industry, the way the retail platforms work, how book marketing happens. This game is fucking hard work – don’t get complacent.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

THANK YOU! I am blown away at how well and enthusiastically Variant Lost has been received. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be able to write full time within a few months of publishing my first book but here I am, sitting in a café, between word-sprints, answering questions for a blog! I am so grateful to be able to do that and it’s all because of the support of my readers.
