Author Tina Hagmann #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Tina Hagmann

Tell us a bit about yourself…

Hello from Austria! Thank you so much for inviting me, this is very exciting and I’m very happy!

My name is Tina Hagmann and I am the author of a historical nove which might be published later this year. It is about a French soldier, Raoul Matisse Loberon, who suffers more loss than he can handle in the battle of Sedan 1940. So he flees to the end of his world and has no intentions of returning to Paris to fight the Nazi’s again. But as always, fate decreeds otherwise. Confronted with  unthinkable plans of the German Wehrmacht, Raoul joins the Parisian Resistance and offers his contribution as a marksman to an armed squad working against the Nazi occupation. Things seem to change for the better, but when he is forced to face his worst nightmare, once again everything he cherishes is at stake.…

I am living south of Vienna at the foothills of the Alps. After studying psychology, philosophy and ethics, I started to teach and have been a teacher for students, ranging from ten to eighteen at a high school for more than twenty-five years. This is an incredibly exciting, but also very challenging job, as children behave never the same and every day holds new surprises. As a result, I have learned how to keep my thoughts focused, my lessons compelling, and how to simplify the often confusing content of my subjects. If I didn’t do that, my students would probably fall asleep due to boredom! Thus, my profession might offer a good foundation for my writing.

Besides this job, I have a bustling family life with my husband and two wildlings, a dog and a horse. I think most authors who can’t earn enough money from their books for a decent life know this balancing act between everyday life and this deep, inner urge for actually just wanting to write. On the other hand, these interruptions, called life, are exactly the ones that give me a distance between me and my stories. Many things only dawn when I’m no longer sitting at the laptop. Besides, I’m just happy that I can write at all! My husband keeps my back free, without his support it wouldn’t have been possible to finish my debut novel.

Apart from that, I like to work in our little garden. Especially in times like these, it’s important to provide a habitat for bees, insects and hedgehogs and to keep the garden as close as possible to nature. I love the buzzing and humming and the manifold scents surrounding me. Half an hour of cutting the lavender plants triggers true relaxing miracles!

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I wished I could answer this question with “yes” and tell you that I have been writing since I was a kid. But that’s not the case. I started writing very late, in my mid-forties. However, what I can definitely tell you is that stories have been within my mind since I was a child. I’ve been thinking and dreaming stories non-stop. And the more I read, the more sentences started to shape in my mind. I imagined that I would once write all of them down. From time to time I tried to scribble down a short story , but very quickly I realized that there is a huge difference between what’s in my own ‘mental’ cinema and to write a story in such a manner that the reader ’experiences’ the same as me. Thus, I quickly realized writing is actually hard work!

And one day, out of the sudden, I gave it another try. I wrote an hour or two every day in the evening, and when Covid lock-down came along, there was so much more time! And one hour turned into many hours and the more I wrote, the more fun it was. Here I set the foundation for my writer’s life and proved that writing is more than just a hobby for me. It became a real passion!

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Fun fact: It was a TV show called “Man in the High Castle”. Therein it plays with the terrifying thought that the Nazis won WW2 and actually conquered the world. And suddenly there was this scene in my head- a man, a Resistance fighter, completely at the mercy of a Gestapo Commissioner. And this man was willing to lay down his life for what is important to him. That was the first scene I wrote, and the whole novel grew around it like petals are growing around a stem. Who is this man? What has he experienced and done to end up at this particular point? So there was an incredible amount for me to develop and that was more than exciting in every single way. Writing towards a certain point, especially when you know nothing about the person and his history, was a real challenge for me. With this in my thoughts, my novel was written kind of backwards, from its end to the beginning.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m adopting a two fold strategy. First, editing of the historical novel has started and I just received the final report of my editor‘s. And as I expected, there are tons of stuff to fix, rewrite and restructure. It’s all going to take time.

In the meantime, I’ve started a fantasy trilogy and somehow the “curse” of writing backwards is haunting me! For a long time I hesitated to write fantasy, because I’m simply lacking unique ideas. Especially here I was under the impression that everything has already been said at some point and somehow. I love fantasy, but I just didn’t have any sparkling ideas. And like in my historical novel there were suddenly those three final scenes. At that point I knew it had to be a trilogy and again I started to create the story “backwards” from those scenes. What has to happen for my MC to end up exactly where I want him to be? Unlike with my first novel which was created as a panster over long periods, I carefully planned and worked on world-building, i.e. how magic works or which social system I need. Funnily enough, right now  I don’t care about geography, monetary systems or anything else, that remains to be seen as I write. I wrote the 1st word of the 1st chapter after two months of planning and the first book of the trilogy is almost halfway through.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I must say there are always many other children in the house and this is often more than turbulent. And I don’t even have my own desk! I sit with my laptop at the dining table and try to write in the midst of the hustle and bustle. The only possibility of excluding the noise around me, putting on my headphones with my ‘writing music’. I need it to mentally find a way into my stories. When I wrote the historical novel, ‘Two Steps From Hell’ had to be a must and each act of the book had certain songs and albums associated with it. It’s a bit magical, I put on my headphones, fire up the playlist and instantly find my writing rhythm. For the fantasy story, I mainly listen to Pandora’s Journey, so Epic Fantasy Music. It always works!

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope I can provide for many readers a great time with my story! All the years before, so many wonderful books have accompanied me. They have taken me out of my everyday life and allowed me to escape into incredible worlds. I hope I can give something in return! I want to write books which entertain readers. Give them pleasure. At best, to lay a foundation for their daydreams. If my stories succeed in this point, then I have achieved a lot.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

I’m still on the road to publishing my book myself, but right now all I can say is: find yourself a writer who has more experience than you and who can guide you. I was incredibly lucky to meet Krista Pimpinella, the author of Nexus Point, the 1st book of the Time Ranger Series. She has taught me so much along the way and prepared me for what is to come, especially the tedious and sometimes painful editing process. The other thing I’ve learned is that as a self-publisher it is less about promoting your own novel but rather about introducing yourself to the world. Be interested in other people and their passions, and over time it will come naturally to talk about your own work as well. Just marketing my novel is not my primary goal.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

You are an incredibly great community and it’s so much fun getting to know you, spending time with you and your thoughts, and I’m learning and benefiting from your experiences! I really enjoy all your passions and skills. There is so much to discover if you are open to meet new people, no matter what they are- poets, horse lovers, photographers, artists, or Musketeer fans. We are connected by our openness and interest in each other- and that’s just awesome!

Please give a warm welcome to

Tell us a bit about yourselfAvid reader, married nearly 8 years to my high school sweetheart, even though I graduated early. Family owns a bakery so I’ve been roped in since I was 14 years old. Mother of two amazing, slightly morbid, girls. My family is all incredibly close knit and have been crazy supportive of me jumping into the world as an author.°°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Sure! I’ve always had a love of reading, but never expected to actually attempt writing. The thought of being good enough to publish was so intimidating! But seeing all the crazy support in the RH community, I finally decided to bite the bullet and give it a try so that I could say I DID it. I wrote a book. I never expected all of the positive feedback I’ve been getting and am beyond grateful. What was your inspiration for your current book/series? Inspiration? Skye is actually a combined version of my daughters. Way too smart and a little deranged 😉 I’ve always loved different takes on myths, but wanted to do something I hadn’t seen before.°°

What are you working on now?

Currently, I’m editing the second book in the Rise of the Sphinx series, Obscured. After that, onto Obsessed! That will conclude the series and I also have a standalone that needs some tweaking and have started toying with a new series!Do you have any quirks while writing?I may not have any real quirks while writing, but I definitely am a pantser. While at work or wherever else inspiration strikes, I compile notes in my phone and ramble through all of my nonsense with co-workers until a semblance of a logical plot starts to take shape. Then I just start writing and add layer after layer of improvements on it until I think it does the story justice. What are your hopes for the future? My hope for the future? That even if none of my books skyrocket as bestsellers, the ones that give them a chance won’t be disappointed. I’d rather have quality over quantity and if only a few dozen people ever give them a shot, I hope that I can deliver. Make them look at the world just a little bit differently.°°Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world? My advice for new authors? Betas are your best friends. Take any constructive criticism with open arms so that you are able to push yourself into creating the best version of your story that you can, even if it takes a few tries and longer than you’d like. Also, 9/10 if you reach out to any other Indie author they are more than willing to give advice and answer questions to help you. Don’t be afraid to admit that you don’t know everything, but are willing to learn.Do you have anything to say to your readers? To my readers I would just like to say from the bottom of my heart…thank you. Thank you for taking the time to read my words and hopefully a little part of you will fall just as in love with my characters as I have. Tell us a bit about yourself

I am a former aspiring screenwriter who is a wife, mom to one son and avid reader. I have lived in southern America my whole life and some might say my accent borders on the ridiculous! I’m a trivia geek and my favorite spot to be at is the beach.

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’ve written in some form since I was six. My favorite thing as a child was making up creative stories, usually fantasy. High school was all about poetry and college screenwriting. Writing is my escape.

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Two things actually lead me to this book. I started reading reverse harem about a year ago, mainly bully. I was addicted but noticed it always took place mainly in high school setting. Being older I craved an older set of characters so I wasn’t Mrs. Robinson when I was crushing on the guys. Secondly I worked in corporate America for ten years in a more senior role towards the end. Women need more respect and acknowledgment. Less than five percent of women in our country are in an executive level position such as CEO or COO. My goal was to make a comment on this divide by establishing a FMC looking to be the head of a company. We need more women to be the boss.

°

What are you working on now?

My series is three parts so I am finishing the first book and rapidly heading into the next book.

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Yes I am completely OCD in so many ways. I need to be alone, in a silent and still environment. Yet I have an appointed playlist for each chapter I’m writing. I need sexy music when I write sexy, angst when I write angst and empowering when I write empowering. I’m also weird about making sure I have two beverages (usually bottle of water and cup of coffee) within reach.

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

Truthfully I hope to be an author readers follow and get excited when they see a new release from. My main goal is to be well received and respected.

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Never be afraid to reach out! I reached out before I started writing. This is such an amazing community to be apart of. Authors will help you, you will be taken into a group and you need only ask questions. Everyone is here to help. Develop a squad, your squad will be your best friends and lifelines. Also, ask! If you don’t understand how something works just ask. There are so many wonderful people to help. Do not be afraid to ask for help.

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

Yes, I love you all so much, none of this is possible without your support. You bring the joy everyday when I need it. I’m so immensely grateful for you to read what I write. You’re my heroes.

Author Jewels Athur #interview

Please give a warm welcome to

Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Jewels Arthur, which is actually a penname. I have lived in Central Illinois all my life and I currently work at an insurance company that I don’t think wants to be associated with smut. Just a guess 😉 I have been married since 2011 to my high school boyfriend. We have 1 beautiful daughter who is 5. I am an avid reader, realty TV binger, and videogamer.

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’ve always loved to write. Whether it was poems, like my grandmother, or fanfiction it’s always been a passion of mine. When I was younger I wrote fanfiction about the movie Signs with Mel Gibson. Probably because I was/am terrified of aliens so I was trying to make it less scary. I have always thought being an author was out of reach though. That it wasn’t a ‘real job’ but since seeing the indie author world my perception has changed.

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Every video game that has assassins. For example Skyrim, the Dark Brotherhood is one of my favorite parts. I love being a badass assassin just running through and murdering everyone. The idea of creating this female assassin with a dark past appealed to me so much. Plus I love the idea that joining the family unlocks this power sleeping inside you. In my dreams I am Mara, female assassin succubus with my gorgeous harem of men.

°

°

What are you working on now?

Book 2 in the series. I am really excited for the introduction of new characters and to explore this realm the assassins can use called the void. I’m also working on a horror short story coming out in an anthology in September. There are a few other anthologies I am working on including a shifter romance that is turning out to be longer than I expected so we’ll see what happens with that. I also have some ideas for an alien reverse harem.

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Playlists. I have several that I have made that get me in the mood for certain scenes. Also I watch certain videos of the sexual variety for inspiration writing those sexy scenes 😉

°

What are your hopes for the future?

Honestly just getting all these stories out of my head and putting them on paper is amazing to me. The fact that people want to read them? Mind blowing. I’m hoping that the stories won’t stop and that I will be able to continue to express them and find readers.

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Just do it. Literally if you have an idea, start writing and run with it! Make friends in the community. Everyone is so amazing and having contacts for your endless questions is amazing.

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

Thank you! Seriously, the fact that you are at all interested in the nonsense that I have in my head is astounding to me. Also, keep swooning. We need more swooners in the world.

Ann Swan #interview

Please give a warm welcome debut author Ann Swan. Her book Covened: A Magical Reverse Harem Romance (Mrs Pig and the Words of Power Book 1) is on pre-order going live Febuary 1.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF?

Other than being a full-time sarcastic bitch, I am a writer, a mother to 3 kids, and a pug enthusiast. I wanted to write since I was a little girl but the practical people who raised me pushed me to another career, and then my health failed. I’ve had 68 surgeries in the last decade and am finally getting stronger again. Between that and my oldest turning 18 this year I felt like if I was ever going to go after my dream now was the time!

HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BECOME AN AUTHOR?

Oh yes. Since I was little. I taught myself to read listening to books my mom would record onto tapes I’d play in my Care Bear Cassette Player. By the time I was 5 I was reading The Secret Garden and I read Jane Eyre at 8. We lived in the woods and I’d climb trees with books I borrowed and read them. I’d steal Harlequins from my great aunt and hide them in baggies in tree holes. My first book was when I was 9 and I wrote a Jane Eyre rip off called Stuart Hall (which was the name of the pen brand I wrote with).

WHAT WAS YOUR INSPIRATION FOR THE SERIES?

Covened, which is the first book in the Mrs. Pig & the Words of Power series has the best origin story. So like I mentioned, I’m sick. A lot. I spend about 75% of my time stuck in bed. My daughter was given a runt pug by a friend and we named her Luna. She is the biggest character. She fit right in with our rescue dogs and then before we knew it we were making up voices for her and having her narrate our lives. It made all the sucky parts of life better. She is so human, and so caring. One day, my husband and I were making up an alternate life for her while we joked around about reverse harem books…. And then it came to me. I knew it was time to go after my dream, and if I was going to do it I was going to write a story about something I loved.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUIRKS WHILE WRITING?

Some? Maybe? I have to have my legs up. I have short legs so I write in bed, or on the chaise. It has to be a laptop, too. I sit it on my lap direct or lay on my side sideways and type. It also has to be super silent, so that means I do most of my writing after midnight!WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW Right now I am deep into the second book in the series, CURSED. I am also working on a free short story from one of the guys perspectives. After the Mrs. Pig series wraps I’m going to write a series based off the Anastasia Romanov story but in space. It’s called the Hidden Princess series and the first book is Ana of the Stars. The covers are SO CUTE.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR NEW AUTHORS ABOUT THE PUBLISHING WORLD?

I’m pretty new myself, but I do. Protect your reputation like it’s your health. Don’t gossip; it will ALWAYS end up hurting you. Treat your name like a business and keep it clean. Be genuine, work hard, and don’t feel stupid asking questions. Lastly, pay for good editing. It really is worth it.

WHAT ARE YOUR HOPES FOR THE FUTURE?

I want this series to do well so I can use it to pay for the costs of putting out the next one. I want to get better at what I do and write faster. I’m a slow writer. Developing that skill would be so beneficial. I want to get invited to a signing one day. That’s a big goal too… I’m waiting for once Covened hits for that first call out in a fan group. I can’t wait!

DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY TO YOUR FANS?

Hello all four of you! Ha! It’s hard to understand the concept of a fan when my book hasn’t released yet. You could hate it and then where would we be? I consider the people that have followed my journey to this point…the ones like you Helle who are in my group every day and have gotten to know me; I consider you guys family. Friends. Fans is for people I don’t know but like my books. Those would be nice one day, too, but for now I have friends who keep me going. Thank you for being one of those!

Blurp
MAGIC IS DYING;
CAN I SAVE IT?
IF THE PRICE IS MY HAPPINESS;
CAN I PAY IT?
In the last few generations, only one in a hundred female witches are born with power. So when I came into mine, my grandmother helped me hide it so I wouldn’t be swept away by the ISC, our magical government.
The price of discovery was steep; becoming an ISC drone and being paired with their choice of mate for my coven. So I hid in plain sight working days at Maggie’s Pet Wash, and nights piecing together the mythical Words of Power.
The only thought that keeps me going is figuring out a way to beat the ISC and hopefully fall in love with a coven of my own… maybe even raise a few little witchlings.
So when my familiar, a pug named Mrs. Pig, screws up my one shot at obtaining the Words of Power, I figure everything is ruined. That is until Pierce, Sam, and their own talking dogs walk into my life. Now that I have them, can I give them up? Even to save magic?
The ISC is coming for me. What they don’t know is:
I’M COMING FOR THEM, TOO.
