Please give a warm welcome to

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve been writing off and on since I was a kid. I love to write and was writing a children’s book but couldn’t decide how to end it. About the same time, I was writing an offworld series and it became too confusing as to what was happening when. However, it was good practice for this series. I think if I went back to it now that I could finish it. I know people who were reading it back then wanted me to. It didn’t have as much bedroom time in it as my current books do.

I’ve also been an accountant, a server (AKA waitress), a hostess, a door-to-door salesperson, a mail handler, an airport package handler, a cashier, a blogger, and so many other things. It makes it easier to write about a character that is doing one of those jobs.

I love reading and watching Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Paranormal books and movies. I couldn’t help putting many of my favorite things into the books.

I also have a three-legged cat named Sharkey.

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

As a child, I wanted to be just about everything: an artist, an author, a nun (that never would have worked out, ahem), a baker, a firefighter, a veterinarian, a doctor and more. I think I just couldn’t choose because that meant I couldn’t be those other things too. As a writer, I have the opportunity to become all those things, and more, through my characters.

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Dreams and daydreams were and are my inspiration – I would dream or daydream about something and take notes. Then I decided to write about them. However, I messed-up the first several drafts because I was writing them the way I would a recipe. This stemmed from me writing recipes for my gluten-free blog a few years ago.

Once I hammered that out of my system, the writing flowed a lot faster. I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point of being able to knock out a book a week but who knows?

I also remember conversations from people I knew in the past and blend their stories into various characters.

Additionally, I read facts about what is happening in our world today and try to blend some of those into the books. For other inspiration, I look at a variety of art, such as fantasy, sci-fi, and nature. I even love watching nature videos and science videos. Did you ever watch Connections with James Burke? I used to love that show.

Another thing, I try to imagine what it would be like to be on a world you know nothing about, know no one, and have none of your personal belongings. Wouldn’t you want to bring some of that to the new world – such as chocolate? I can’t imagine a world without chocolate – especially dark chocolate. I know when settlers came from the old world, they brought many things with them, including grapes. It was only natural the ladies would want to bring a few of those things if they could.

Jennifer, the FMC of the two books that have been published, requires they test everything to ensure that the foods from Earth will not make people sick and that they are safe to bring before she allows them to import the products and/or the plants. She’s concerned about many things, including any impact on the environment and the treatment of sentient beings. By book three, she’s a whole different person than she was when she first arrived on Xaerdu. It might be more accurate to say that she feels more empowered to take action about the things in the first two books.

I had a fun time writing her ‘meet cute’ with her Xaerd mates. When you think about it, humans often ‘rename’ their ‘mates’. We call each other names like ‘honey’, ‘sweetheart’, and ‘hot lips’ (shoutout to MASH). The Xaerds all think this is a human custom of claiming and don’t feel comfortable until they receive their new names from their mates.

°

°

What are you working on now?

I’m working on Matched: Karla’s Diary for an anthology called Men of Summer. Several authors are gathering together to contribute their stories for it. If you want to know more, contact Eva Delaney. She’s a reverse harem author that I love. She makes some seriously funny videos that she posts in her group.

I’m also working on Jennifer’s third book in the Xaerd series. Additionally, I’m working on first drafts of Sue’s book, Violet’s book and some others. If you haven’t read the books, these ladies are characters in Jennifer’s books.

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

My quirks are that I have to imagine the scene in a dream or daydream – I sometimes can’t sleep because I’m trying to force my mind to focus on the problem or the solution. I also binge write – I can write 50K words in two weeks (or less) but then have to edit it like crazy forever.

I’ve laughed out loud about scenes I wrote that I had forgotten. I’ve also cried at times. I hate putting my characters in danger and had to work on my dislike of risking their lives in order to write a better story.

I have plot bunnies for so many more stories in the series – even spin-off series. I hope I manage to write many of them. I’m dying to write a series about the cyborgs that appear in Jennifer’s third book (not published yet).

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

I just want people to enjoy the stories and escape whatever is happening in their lives for a bit. I hope that my writing brings tears, smiles, and laughter to their world.

I hope to write many more of the stories that are buzzing around in my head. My characters want their stories told.

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Cross your fingers, it can be a wild, tumultuous ride – I hope you love rollercoasters.

I spend a lot of time helping new authors. Explaining that they should set up their pages and their groups early so that when they are ready to publish, they have someone to share their news with.

Link the page to the group on Facebook. There’s a long list of reasons for this but I don’t want to take up the space for it here.

Do takeovers (that’s when another author lets you take over their group to promote your book) as much as you can around your release date.

The big groups have rules about what you can post, when, and how often. Follow the rules of that group. I’m still learning what those rules are. It’s confusing to new authors because they all have different rules.

If you’re an indie author, then be prepared to spend money on cover designers, editors, and other services like Bookfunnel.

If you can afford to pay a PA (personal assistant), they can be invaluable in helping you get your book off to a good start. Ask other authors for recommendations – especially if they are new and their books are doing well.

Learn about social media – Twitter, Facebook, BookFunnel, BookBub, GoodReads, and more.

Set up an author page on Amazon as soon as you can.

If you’re an unknown author, romance books tend to do best in Kindle Unlimited. It gives readers a chance to get to know you before they spend money for your books.

°

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I want to thank them profusely for reading my books and for writing reviews about them. I appreciate it when they post reviews on the various sites. I love it when they post notes for me in my group, on my wall, or on my author page to let me know how much they enjoyed the book.

I hope they enjoy reading about Jennifer’s antics as much as, if not more than, I did writing them. I post on my author page almost every day. My group often gets more personal posts and I share a lot of page posts from other sources that I see and think are funny. I have a few group members that love to share things they love or they think are funny too. It can get pretty crazy.

The fans that let me know what they think about the books are truly appreciated. Hearing about a specific scene they enjoyed makes me feel great about writing and sharing.

From Jennifer’s first book:

The first excerpt is from when Jennifer ties up Alf because she thinks he needs to learn to relax.

I crawled onto the bed, lightly running a fingernail up his powerfully muscled leg, feeling the warmth of his smooth skin and the firmness of his toned muscles under my fingertip. I ran it across his abdomen following his taut muscles as he gasped. He was fighting to not break loose now. I lightly ran my fingernail…

***

This excerpt is from when Jennifer decides she wants minions to do her bidding. They were just a lark at first but then they become important to running the Keep and other things.

Excerpts from book two

This excerpt is from when Alf takes Jennifer to the waterfalls the first time.

…keeping my face out of the water and dipping my head back to feel the water against my scalp. Brr, the water was a little cold at first but not too bad; it turned pleasant quickly. I stood up out of the water and Alf swallowed hard as water first rushed, then dripped down my body – my hair and clothing soaked.

“I suspect it’s time we return you to your safe room,” Alf choked. I smirked; I loved that I still had that effect on him.

“All right, this was a nice little retreat,” I told him as I wrapped my wet body around him and gave him a kiss. My libido was dead for once in my adult life but that didn’t mean I couldn’t tease him.

He wrapped his arms around me and held me tight. “I’m pleased you enjoyed it,” he murmured, kissing me on top of my head, avoiding my horns and nuzzling my neck.

The Lost Sentinel | Book Three Coming Soon

*Hyperventilating* If you haven’t read this series, then hurry up and get to it. If you are already addicted to The Lost Sentinel series, then it’s time to reread it.

°

°

°
My name is Vinna, and I’ve been keeping a lot of secrets.
You would too if you’d experienced some of the weird shit I have: red-eyed monsters chasing me, markings on my body appearing out of nowhere, a strange power that crackles colorfully over my skin from time to time, and don’t get me started on the weapons I can conjure up almost out of nowhere.
Lucky for me, I have yet to meet someone whose ass I couldn’t kick, inside the ring or out. I put that to the test when I run headfirst into a fight that brings all my secrets, and reality as I know it, crashing down around me.
Now, I’m looking for answers and trying to piece together what the hell is going on. Paranormal is my new way of life. It’s not going to be easy, and I’m not exactly welcome.
That is, until I meet the boys, and trust me, they are anything but boyish.
I’m up against elders who think I’m too powerful, a family who views me as a threat, and something lurking in the shadows that’s been coming for me my whole life.
There’s not a chance in hell I’m going down without a fight. I’m not lost anymore, and I’m about to show this world exactly what I can do.
Author’s Note: This is the first book in The Lost Sentinel Series and ends with a cliffhanger. This book is a medium burn reverse harem story, intended for ages 18 years and older. This story contains strong language, sexual situations, and violence.

My name is Vinna and I am a Sentinel.
I’m the last in a line of a hunted, magical race, coveted and killed for our power and abilities.
I was hidden and protected, but now that I’ve been found, it’s a race to see who can command and control me.
Joke’s on them, I bow to no one.
I need to master my magic, and protect the five guys I’ve marked as my own at all costs.
Because the line between friend and foe is dangerously blurry, and I’m collecting enemies like Sentinels collect runes.
It’s time to prepare for battle, claim my place, and get ready to fuck up anything or anyone that comes for me and my Chosen.
Authors Note: This is the second book in The Lost Sentinel Series and ends with a cliffhanger. This book is a medium burn Reverse Harem story, intended for ages 18 years and older. This book contains swearing, graphic sex, and violence.

Please give a warm welcome to author and poet Ben Ditmars

°

Tell us a bit about yourself

°

Ah, the million-dollar question. Which is good, because I could really use a million dollars. I am an author and poet, currently working in bookkeeping and accounting. This ties into my latest collection Number Poetry – all about the hidden rhythm of the written word. But when I’m not writing or counting beans, I enjoy exploring local history and traveling. I found a bar near my parent’s house where Al Capone used to relax. Pretty cool, eh?

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an poet/author?

°

I’ve always wanted to be heard. But I’m shy around strangers. Writing helps me decipher my thoughts and communicate better.

°

What was your inspiration for the writing?

°

I find inspiration everywhere. The sky, the trees, stars in space – a lot with the stars in space. Science in general makes me think and ask questions. It’s a good conduit for metaphors. So is romance. My favorite poems from other poets are romantic ones – borderline erotic. Sex is liberating as an art form. And probably other ways too.

°

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

°

OCD. Lots of OCD. I can agonize over a single word or piece of punctuation for hours. It’s slightly more muted writing for publications, because I can take time. But if it’s for the internet, you’re naked when it’s posted. There’s an urgency, exhilaration and fear that goes with it. But it also helps you find what works and resonates with an audience.

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

°

Research the publishing and business world. Go to author events and see how they promote and interact. Watch Mad Men. Read as much as possible of the genre you intend to write. Think of who your audience will be and what you can give them they don’t have.

°

What are you working on now?

°

I’m working on quite a few things. A book of romantic haiku, a haiku novella and fantasy adventure, and a young-adult collection with various life lessons. It should be a real hoot.

°

What are your hopes for the future?

°

I would love to keep expanding and reaching new audiences. That’s my biggest struggle is growing the ranks of people who read poetry. Partly, I’ve been doing this through posting on Instagram, or the Gram as hip Gen-Y kids call it. Or it Gen Z? I’m too much of a Millennial to actually remember.

°

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

°

Yes, as a matter of fact. I appreciate you staying with me through these weird ideas I have. I could be living under a bridge shouting haiku, but you like my posts and buy books so I don’t have to.

°

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hmm, where do I start. I’m a Sci-fi author. I plan to venture out to other genres in the near future. I’m actually writing two contemporary romance novellas that will be out this summer. I’m originally from Nova Scotia, Canada. After meeting my husband I moved to the USA. Flash forward 8 years. I currently live in Alabama with my husband, two sons, four cats, and my fish. We move around a lot. I live a quiet lifestyle of housewife, and stay at home mom. My life is a bit norm, so I don’t have any crazy stories to tell.

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Surprisingly no, I recently wanted to become one — I want to say within the last 4 years. I adore so many great authors. I’d have to give them all credit for me writing today. If it wasn’t for new authors creating new worlds and books, I likely wouldn’t have been inspired. So, I’d like to shout out to all the wonderful authors out there, thank you for being my inspiration!

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

My inspiration was fear. Having fear is healthy, but what if you wrote about that fear to help overcome it? So, that’s what I did. I have a huge fear of snakes. HUGE. Alabama has a lot of snakes in its green wonderland. Often times, when I go for nature walks with my boys, we see snakes sunning themselves. I usually walk (run) by them, I have respect for them. Meaning, I keep away from them. Though I fear our serpent friends, I know a good amount about them. I decided to write about them to help myself. So far, it’s not working, at all — but the experience has been a blast!

°

°

What are you working on now?

Well, I just finished book two in my Sky Serpent Clan series. I’m doing two contemporary romance novellas, it’ll be part of a Forever safe series which will feature many other amazing authors. After that I plan to write about Tara. She’s the next in my Sky Serpent Clan series line. That’s what I’m currently working on right now.

°

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Possibly? I always have one of my four cats, tea, and some form of candy within arms reach.

°

What are your hopes for the future?

I know I’m not perfect, but one day I hope my writing will grow, and get better with time. That people who read my books, will continue to enjoy them.

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

As a newbie myself, I want others out there to know — don’t be afraid to take that jump. Take the first step, you can do it! Write what makes you happy and don’t stop. Surround yourself with other authors and support one another. Having author friends are wonderful. Lastly, don’t take bad reviews to heart. Not everyone will enjoy your book and that’s okay, that doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy your book. I’ll be cheering you all on from the sidelines.

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

A huge thank you to everyone that has read my first book, and my second. To those that helped me spread the word around, and those that have supported me, it helped a lot. To the spectacular readers that have posted reviews stating they loved my book, and gave me tips. You make writing worth it. You’re all truly appreciated!

Author Kristen Banet #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Kristen Banet

Tell us a bit about yourself

Well, a bit? I’ve lived a really strange life that’s taken me all over and I’m not even 30 yet! Some work history, then. I was a Hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy. I worked in a tattoo parlor for stint before that. Through it all, I was a freelance artist. Still an artist in my free time, but no longer taking on work.

And on the personal front… I am married and we have a roommate. Two best guys I’ve ever met. We have two pets, a boy border collie and a girl cat. They are probably the most ridiculous characters in my life. My cat has now found herself in not one but two series as Riley’s cat Star and as Sombra from the Redemption Saga. She’s a nut.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Yes and no? I always said I wanted to be a storyteller. The form need not be a thing. It never mattered. From comics to books, I just wanted to tell stories. It was actually that drive that led me to starting my artwork. In the end, though, comics take a long time and I was suffering a really problematic depression where I couldn’t pick up a pencil to draw. I decided I would just write the stories and it’s worked out from there. It wasn’t the first time I had tried to just write them, but it was the first time it stuck.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I’ve got a few right now! I’ll go with my epic fantasy. Age of the Andinnais all of my favorite tropes and pieces of an old epic fantasy I’ve been wanting to work on for years and had already started. Epic fantasy with romance is my favorite genre and I wanted to finally bring my own vision of epic fantasy to life.

It’s much like Sawyer, overcoming dark parts of yourself and seeing the brightness. Fighting back against those who would see you fail. Those story beats have always really resonated with me, much like polyamorous romance, where love is love and no one can tell these characters otherwise.

I also can’t resist a badass female lead.

What are you working on now?

I’m switching back and forth between Witch of the Wild West and Age of Andinna. Both on the third book right now! I’m a bit ahead of the readers, since Witch of the Wild West is just about to launch, and The Mercenary’s Bounty (AotA Book 2) comes out in April.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I don’t think so? I listen to a lot of music and it’s not even stuff related to the book. It’s whatever I’m in the mood for. I’ll pace around my office too, thinking about scenes I want to write to get into the mood. That might be a little weird. My husband gives me strange looks when he walks in and I’m just walking in a circle with music blaring.

What are your hopes for the future?

That I can keep going on adventures with my characters and people honor me with their time and join in.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Rule one to me is always finish the book. Before you get ahead of yourself, finish the book. Prove to yourself that you can actually do the thing. That, to me, comes before anything else. The social media, the pages, the groups, the takeovers. All of that mess we authors find ourselves bogged down in and distracted by. Finish your book. Then you’ve got something to work with. You’ve prove you can with no distractions. Then add to your plate.

Because the most important thing you’ll do as an author is write, at least in my experience.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for coming on journeys with me. There’s dozens, even hundreds of authors out there and yet, you decided to spare a moment for me. For just that alone, I’m grateful.

Author Steffanie Holmes #interview & #review

Please give a warm welcome to author Steffanie Holmes

Tell us a bit about yourself

My real name is Steff Green, and I’m a 30-something writer living in New Zealand. My husband and I built our own home on a slice of rural paradise, and we currently live there with our horde of cats and our medieval sword collection.

When I’m not writing, I love to travel, tear up the mosh pit at a metal show, and brew my own wine and mead.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Pretty much! I was going to be a writer and an archaeologist from the age of about 7. I went to university to study archaeology, and even participated in digs and conservation work all over New Zealand, but because of my eyesight (I’m legally-blind) I couldn’t convince anyone to hire me. I turned to writing instead.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Books! I love all things books, so it’s been so much fun incorporating that into the Nevermore Bookshop series. My husband and I visited this beautiful old bookshop in York in England last time we were there that we still talk about, and I always thought it would be a great setting for a series. I’ve been reading a lot of cozy mysteries lately and watching a lot of Midsomer Murders. And I kept seeing people talking about their “book boyfriends” online and decided it would be super fun to create a harem of book boyfriends and what it would be like if they came to life. Add a dash of Black Books-esque humour and you have the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries!

What are you working on now?

I’ve just finished the first draft of book 2 in the Nevermore Bookshop series, OF MICE AND MURDER. After that’s been edited, I’ll be starting book 3, which is themed around Jane Austen, and I can’t wait!

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Because of my eyesight, I write with my screen contrast reversed – so black background with white letters.

What are your hopes for the future?

Selling millions of books, travel the world, learn how to pilot a plane… you know, the usual sort of thing 🙂

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Your first book is your experiment book. It’s where you make a lot of your beginner mistakes. It’s perfectly okay that it’s not perfect – the important thing is that you write it and get it out there!

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

You guys are the best. Seriously. THANK YOU. Without you, I’d just be shouting into the void. Thank you.

My review of

A Dead and Stormy Night

#Review of Covened by Ann Swan

I received this copy as an ARC.

I’ve been looking forward to reading this book so much. Finally I got my grubby little hands on it and it was totally worth the wait.

This book had me giggeling/snorting through the whole book. I could totally follow the #BigGirlProblems and having once been a pug owner I could appreciate Mrs. Pig and her brand of love/craziness. Throw in some hot dudes, magic and enough intrigue to choke a cow and you have a 5 star book. Now I just have to survive until Cursed comes out.

I really look forward to the next book in the series. This debut author does not disappoint.

Please give a warm welcome to

author Katie May

Tell us a bit about yourself

*I am twenty-years old and a senior in college. I’m studying political science and legal studies. Originally, I planned to go to law school but now I’m not so sure. Writing is definitely my passion so if I can make a career out of it that would be surreal. Oh and I love animals! I have like fifteen rescued pets at home. Cats, dogs, bunnies, turtles, birds, Guinea pigs.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

*I always did want to be a writer, but I didn’t always want to be an author. See, I love writer, but I don’t like being in the spotlight. As an author, you have to deal with so much stuff that it sometimes feels as if you’re head is exploding. I had planned to only write for myself when I lost a bet with my sister. As such, I had to publish my first book. I literally did it in a day. Got the covers, uploaded it to Amazon, etc. I didn’t have any experience nor idea of what to expect. I didn’t think even ten people were going to read my book. At the time, I didn’t have an ARC team or betas or even an editor. It was just me. I still can’t believe how it just blew up.

What was the inspiration for your current series?

*My inspiration for Gangs and Ghosts is actually kind of funny. I was watching a horror movie and I was like “wow, that chick could totally start her own harem.” And then I started thinking of my own experience. Gangs and Ghosts is actually loosely based on my old house I used to live with. I don’t remember it because I was very young, but my parents told me that it was haunted and I would talk to an imaginary friend called the Shadow Man (creepy, I know). I don’t know why I decided to add the gang. It just came to me with their behaviors. And thus, Gangs and Ghosts was born!

What are you working on now?

*I’m working on the third Together We Fall series and a contemporary RH through a writing class I need to take. Ohh and a short story for an anthology I am. So probably more than I can handle haha

Do you have any quirks while writing?

*I always write on my phone. Every story has been completely written in notes. My author friends call me a heathen because of it.

What are your hopes for the future?

*I hope to be able to continue to do what I love. I also hope that my stories will somehow resonate with the readers the way they do for me. For the most party, feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and encouraging. As long as people keep reading, I’ll keep writing.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

*Do it. Just bring yourself to do it. I keep thinking of how things would’ve been different if I hadn’t lost that bet. Probably still writing stories that no one but me would read. Don’t be afraid if you can’t afford a fancy cover or an editor. As long as you have a story, people will read it. And join groups! I am currently in a group with a few authors that have been my rock. I don’t know what I would do without those ladies.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Oh gosh. I could write a whole novel on that haha. Thank you for supporting me and believing me even when I struggled to believe in myself. This has definitely been a journey full of ups and downs, but you guys have made it all worth it. I don’t know who I would be without you and your support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Review of Awakened and Betrayed

I received this copy as an ARC.
I LOVE IT!!!!! The author freaking blew my mind. I’m ready to reread it again. *insert positive swear words* I stayed up all night reading, I couldn’t put it down.
I have waited since December with baited breath to get my hands on this *Gollum voice* precious book. Well let me tell you, this book was even better than the first one.
I was nail biting, sitting on the edge of my seat nervous, exited, appalled, angry, giggeling and so much more. Not to forget that book one was hot, but book two was scorching.
It’s going to be pure pain waiting for book three, but I know that it’ll be worth it. So hurry up and check out this amazing series.
