Author Nadia Hasan / N.J. Ember #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Nadia Hasan / N.J. Embers

Tell us a bit about yourself…

Hi, I’m Nadia Hasan. I write urban fantasy and paranormal fiction under the name N.J. Ember. I also write poetry under my own name. I live in Michigan with my grandpa (who is one of my biggest fans,) and when I’m not reading or writing I’m usually watching shows like Criminal Minds and Supernatural.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Pretty much. When I was very young I briefly thought about being some kind of singer, but it never felt right. It was my third grade teacher who actually made the suggestion that I become a writer. I was writing stories before then, (mostly short fairytale-type stories that I dictated to my grandmother,) but before my teacher suggested it I didn’t know it was something people could decide to do. After that, it was all I focused on. Which is just as well since I can’t sing to save my life.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The initial ideas for the Heavy Metal Magic Series was all thanks to my amazing writing partner, author Amir Lane. They posted on Facebook about an idea they had to combine heavy metal, an all-female band and witches together, but they didn’t want to write it alone. They were looking for someone to co-write with, and I’d just recently added “publish a co-written book” to my list of things I wantet giving ourselves, the bonds of found family and what it means to be human. Plus, lots of monsters.

I admired the hell out of Amir as an author. I was already a fan of their “Barrier Witch” books, and I’m always trying to learn as much as I can from others in the community. When I find new opportunities to challenge myself with, I jump at them as often as possible. The truth is, the whole thing was serendipitous and surreal. Now I have best friend and a fantastic writing partner for life.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on the second arc of the Heavy Metal Magic Series with Amir, which will pick up with book four. Technically, we have four books out because of the way we chose to number the series (1, 2, 2.5, 3,) which we did in part to differentiate Nadira’s journey from Lottie’s.

Personally, I’m working on a number of projects as N.J. Ember. I write much slower on my own, but a few short stories have been planned as well as a secret project I can’t talk about yet. Under my own name, I’m mostly working on voicing the character of Celia for a podcast show called “Space Mantis” and writing poetry for my next collection.

Do you have any quirks while working?

While I do write with an outline, I write in parts instead of chronologically. Scenes never come to me in order. I also either need music when I write or complete silence. There’s no in between. Usually, I create story playlists and listen to them before I begin to write. For the Heavy Metal Magic Series we have individual character playlists.

What are your hopes for the future?

I’m currently working on my BA in Creative Writing and English from Southern New Hampshire University, so my first hope is that I finally finish my degree. Professionally, I want to continue to improve my skills as an author. I want to continue my goals to write characters and stories that are true to life: complex, diverse, flawed, resilient, and achingly human, even when they’re dealing with the supernatural. I’m also hoping to continue collaborating on projects with authors I admire.

Personally, I’m still learning what happiness and fulfillment look like. I’m hoping that includes some healthier days, surrounded by people who love me unconditionally. I think many of us are hoping for that right now. I want to learn new skills and find ways to connect with the world around me. I’d really love to find a way to bridge my love of books and writing with ways to give back. Honestly, I’m always hoping to find ways to leave this world better than when I came into it.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Research everything and don’t be afraid to ask questions. There’s so much information on the internet, social media, and books. Your favorite authors are human too, so sometimes they’ll be able to help you with some of your questions, but much of the time they won’t. Be polite in either case. And like my grandpa says, “the worst they can say is no.”

The most important thing is to be resilient. Write your story and believe in it. Even the stories that have been told before haven’t been told by you. Remember why you started and don’t let anyone convince you not to try. It’s okay to fail, but you haven’t really failed until you’ve given up. Publishing is always changing, so keep learning and don’t get discouraged if your path starts to look different than you’ve pictured it. When something doesn’t work out it’s usually so there’s space in your life for something even better.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

Thank you so much! Thank you for all of your support and patience. Without my readers I couldn’t do what I do.

Please give a warm welcome to author Nikki Jacks

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I’m a wife and mother. My husband and I have been married for 22 years. Our sons are 21 and 16. I have a bachelors degree in history and just completed a master’s degree in organizational leadership.

By day I work in a middle school (years 6-8).

I love to travel and enjoy good food with friends. I’ve begun learning about wine the last couple of years and enjoy tastings and pairings. In my spare time I read, play video games and watch all manner of British tv and cooking shows.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I didn’t always want to be an author, but I have always told stories. I started writing poetry in high school and continued in college and after I was married.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The initial inspiration for Lotus was winning the 13th Jewel Contest sponsored by the Silver Springs authors. I knew how my character was going to get whammied with a love spell, I just needed to let my imagination find the details.

What are you working on now?

This summer I’ll start working on a sequel to Lotus. I’ll also start plotting out Phoenix’s story.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I’m quirky in general, but I do have a few things. Music is a must when I’m writing. I typically put Spotify on random and let music play. I also burn my favorite candle, Sage & Citrus by Yankee Candle Co., and I chew Mentos gum while I write.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to improve my writing and continue creating stories people love, in Silver Springs and out.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Find mentors! The insights and advice of people who have walked the path ahead of you are invaluable. Publishing is more than Spell check in your word processing program and your alpha/beta team. Seek out the people who will support you and guide you along.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

Thank you!! Without your support and willingness to take a chance on a new author, Lotus wouldn’t be the hit she is!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I live in the UK with my husband and two sons. I’m a total boardgame geek. I collect tarantulas, we currently have 10! Mostly, I love to stay home reading, writing, and playing – but I do also love to get the family out into the countryside for walks and mountain-biking.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’ve certainly always been creative and enjoyed writing stories, but I wanted to be a professional photographer. And I was for a while, until the children came along and I found that staying home to write stories was much more agreeable than traipsing around at all hours with my camera!

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The inspiration for my latest book came from the cover! I saw a premade cover that I loved, purchased it, and the entire story flowed from there. All I knew was that the heroine would be a genie and that it would be my first reverse harem. It’s such a striking cover!

What are you working on now?

I have two projects on the go at the moment. Firstly, I’ve been accepted to write in the shared world of a well-known author (but I can’t say who just yet as it’s not been announced!) so I’m working on that. I can say that it’s my first contemporary romance, full of angst and steam, and a second-chance at love.

I’m also plotting a fae reverse harem! So excited to finally dive into faery realms!

Do you have any quirks while working?

Not really, other than the endless battle to avoid procrastination and actually write, but I think that’s a shared problem for all authors!

What are your hopes for the future?

To keep writing! To make it big. To have my books made into movies. You know, the usual…

I’d also like to write some traditional mainstream fantasy.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Find your tribe! The author and reader communities on social media are amazing. Interact and find your people. Learn from them, keep striving for better. Always support other authors, spread the love, and avoid all drama and negativity like the plague. Oh, and keep writing 😊

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

Massive thanks for your support. I’m constantly blown away by the love. Every single review, interaction, and message all mean the world to me. I can’t ever thank you enough!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I live in colorado, I have two fur babies, I have an endless amount of hobbies including crafts, photography, and reading. I love summer. I don’t have a favorite color because I love them all. And I absolutely love being an author!

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I can’t remember a time I didn’t want to be a writer. When I was young I was always writing poetry and stories.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

This book was actually sparked by the photo of the woman on the cover. I saw her and the story just came together.

What are you working on now?

Now I’m working on a Christmas Novella that is book 2.5 in my Backridge Kentucky series.

Do you have any quirks while working?

When I am writing I find myself doing some of the gestures or facial expressions of my characters. It’s just a natural thing I don’t really think about it lol.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hope for the future is to continue to write stories that people love and want to read.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

For new authors best advice is to find a mentor, someone who has been around the block a few times to share their experience with you, and then when you become the knowledgeable one share with a new author. Keep the indie community a place where we support each other.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

To my readers thank you for reading! You are the reason I am here! Thank you for your support!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m N.J. Adel, super naughty author of Her Royal Harem, Nine Minutes, Love Off Camera and Seratis the Goddes of Egypt. From chocolate to books and book boyfriends, I like it DARK and SPICY.

From dark women’s fiction and romance to sci-fi and fantasy. Bikers, rock stars, dirty Hollywood heartthrobs, smexy guards and men who serve. From steamy sexy short stories to full-length literary books. I love it all.

I teach English by day and write fun smut by night with my German Shepherd, Leo.

He is not a fan of my dark work!

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Nope! I wanted to be a drummer, an astronaut, a chef, an actress and the ruler of the universe. Yes, that’s a job and I’m not crazy!

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The Egyptian Queen who rejects immortality and wakes up to become the one thing she hates the most, an immortal, has haunted me for 11 years. I’m half Egyptian and our ancient myth has always fascinated me. I even got a degree in Egyptology for the love of it.

It was finally time to publish this epic high fantasy. I have eight books planned for Seratis the Goddess of Egypt. Book 1 Seratis Daughter of the Sun was released a week ago.

°

°

What are you working on now?

The finale of Nine Minutes, Nine Minutes Forever, a dark motorcycle club romance. One of my favorite I’ve ever written. It’s dark and gritty and full of twists, suspense and dark sizzle.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I write in bed. Can’t write anywhere else. A constant supply of chocolate within reach.

What are your hopes for the future?

Personally, health and happiness for my family. Professionally, more bestselling books and millions of fans 🙂

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Believe in yourself. It’s cruel up there, and you need your sanity and faith that you can do it. Also, you need a very thick skin and PATIENCE. Learn from your mistakes but never let them stop you. Write, write, write! Don’t forget to believe in yourself. YOU re the key to your success.

°

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I FLOVE you 🙂 The little texts, emails, reviews, jokes I get from you always make my day. You’re the reason I’m still going.

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

°

Yes and no. I became passionate about books and writing in high school but the real love for words happened in elementary school when I read the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time. After that, I was addicted.

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

°

I’ve always been fascinated with the Salem witch trials so this new PNR takes a spin on that and adds a reverse harem flair with plenty of action and scary villains.

°

What are you working on now?

°

My next book is about a wolf shifter and a new series.

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

°

Not really. I drink a lot of tea and like to listen to music.

°

What are your hopes for the future?

Keep writing and enjoying life.

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Write every day. Practice makes perfect, or at least it attempts to do so. You definitely have to be prepared to sacrifice but it’s worth it.

°

Yes! I love my readers. They make me smile and their loyalty means the world to me. Thank you for all your support!

Please give a warm welcome to author Nikki Bopp

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hello, my name is Nikki and I am a single mother to one adorable little girl. I work days at a job I love and I now work nights writing all the fantastical things that run through my head. I am a huge fan of supernatural and all things book related.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I have wanted to become an author since I started to really get into reading in middle school. I wrote a lot of poetry and fanfiction and honestly had never even thought of sharing it with someone else until becoming involved with a couple authors in a group on Facebook. They inspired me to try and that was enough for me

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

The inspiration for my current series was the fact that I was sick and tired of reading about werewolves and dragons. As much as I adore them, I felt like someone needed to write the little guys story. And what’s the opposite of a dragon? A mouse.

What are you working on now?

Right now I am currently finishing up the second book in my Shifter Tails series.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I dont know that I have any quirks but it has to be completely silent and I have to type with my legs crisscross applesauce.

What are your hopes for the future?

My hopes for the future are to continue writing of course. I would really love to expand my reader base and maybe get to do a couple signings so I can actually meet the fans that message me. This isn’t about money or fame, it’s about sharing my stories with everyone else and experiencing the thrill of a riveting book.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Advice? Do it. Even if you think you cant, that you’re not good enough or that you are afraid of failure. You may fail but we can only learn from failure. Take criticism with a light heart. It is meant to help you, not bring you down. Grow from it and learn.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Thank you! For every single page, you make my heart so incredibly happy. I am nowhere near where I would like to be but you make it all worth it.

Author Nia Mars #interview @niamars_author

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a huge binge reader. If I find an author I like, I will read everything they’ve ever written. I read a book a night. I’m a total insomniac.
°

°
Have you always wanted to become an author?
Yes! LOL As a kid, I used to make up rhymes. I used to hide with books (so I wouldn’t get nabbed for chores), and make up my own stories. They mostly featured princesses, and heavily focused on the ball gowns.
°

°

What was your inspiration for the Oath Forger series?
I ran out of sci-fi romance to read. LOL I wanted something quick and fun, with a kick-ass heroine and guys I could fall in love with. As I thought about it, a story came to life.
°

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?
Not so much of a quirk, but a bad habit. Every time I get stuck with the story, I go and grab a snack. I keep thinking that getting up and walking away from the computer will restart my brain. My desk is by the kitchen door. Not good!!!
°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?
Write whatever makes you happiest. Be in love with your story. There will be readers who are looking for exactly what you’re looking for. You’re not alone. Put your best ideas out there, and your people will find you.
°

°
What are you working on now?
I’m outlining 3 different series. One is sci-fi, in the Oath Forger world. One is dark fantasy. One is contemporary. I love all three. At the moment, I’m worried about the new censorship law in the US. I’m not sure how that will affect romance authors. Will my books be banned because I write love scenes? That I even have to worry about this, is insane.
°

°

What are your hopes for the future?
I hope readers will connect to my books. That’s really all I want. I’ve already made a number of online friends who found me because of Oath Forger. The RH community is a wonderful, supportive community. I’m so grateful that I get to be part of it. I hope I’ll get to write more RH stories.
°

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?
A message to readers: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! You are the best. Thank you for reading my books! Thank you for the reviews! Thank you for sharing online. I’m grateful beyond words. Please, please keep reading. And, please, help us authors fight censorship, if you can.
