Tell Us a bit about yourself

Hi! I’m Alisha. I’m 28. I live in Canada with my hubby and two daughters. I love to read and write. Something a lot of people don’t know about me is I had a lot of learning disabilities growing up. I always struggled with reading and spelling. The first real book series I read was twilight at 16. I’ve come along way since then and never in a million years thoughts I’d be able to write my own books. My books may not be perfect, but I won’t let my disabilities be a disadvantage and hold me back anymore.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I haven’t always wanted to write books, but around 14 I started making up all these ideas for movies in my head. Due to life getting in the way, I never made anything of that. But years later, when I realized I could take some ideas and make them in to books, I saw a chance to make a new dream come true.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Emerald Lake Prep started off as a dream I made up to help myself go to sleep. After reading Academy Of Misfits by Bea Paige, I did what I normally do to fall sleep every night, and made up my own world within that book. After while, my own ideas started coming forward, and I made my own little world loosely base off the reform school idea but added my own twist. 

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on Emerald Lake Prep book 2, Into the unknown. I’m also working on a new dark contemporary romance that is a bit of a spin-off of a new character that shows up in ELP 2. It takes the readers a few years back and tells Harlow’s story. And if those books ever give me writers block, I have a supernatural series started I’ll be working on.

Do you have any quirks while working?

I do. I can’t be around anyone while writing. Every little sound distracts me. I write in my bedroom, with a fan app on my phone for white noise to drown out the silence and keep a consistent background noise.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to keep writing books that readers will love. I have tons of ideas for books and series of all kinds of genres, so I’m hoping to write a little bit of everything.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Don’t compare your self or your work to any other author. Write what you want, and trust that it’s enough. No book is meant for everyone, but ever book is meant for someone. Every book will find its right audience.

Thank you for giving a new author a chance. Thank you for loving my book baby, and wanting more. Please stick around, because I have so many more stories to share with you, some may just take longer than others to be born. Without you all, none of this would be possible. You all rock!
