Author Jan Romes #interview @JanRomes

Please give a warm welcome to Jan Romes

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Helle, I think I’ve always wanted to be an author, although I didn’t acknowledge it to myself or to anyone else until later in life. Words stir emotion in me. That’s why I love to read books and poetry, and memorize music lyrics. It’s also why I enjoy writing so much. I’m not the world’s best writer, but it sure is fun taking a small idea and spinning a story around it.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

My current series is the Coffee and Dessert – a sweet matchmaking series. A year ago, while on an airplane headed to Texas to visit my daughter, I flipped through the airline’s monthly magazine. In it was an advertisement for a matchmaking service for busy professionals. I decided when I was finished writing the last book in my Wine and Sweat Pants Series, I would write a series with the idea of matchmaking in mind. My series, however, would include anyone (not just professionals) who was looking for love and didn’t want to go the online route. My setting for this series is a new coffee shop in Key West called Coffee and Dessert.

What are you working on now?

With the first book in the Coffee and Dessert Series now published (Meg and Riley’s story), I am working on book two (Danna and Marvin’s story).

Do you have any quirks while working?

I don’t know if having a cup of coffee in front of me is a quirk, but I can’t seem to write without one. Some writers love background music. I can’t do the music thing because I’d be singing along. I need absolute quiet.

What are your hopes for the future?

To finish my latest 4-book series and then possibly write another Christmas-themed story.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

I’d tell new authors to listen to what seasoned authors have to say about the process, but only use the advice as a guide. Every writer’s journey is different. What works for one, won’t necessarily work for another. There are so many fish in the writing sea, yet don’t be shy. Jump in and swim with the rest of us.

Do you have anything to say to your followers?

I absolutely do, Helle. I’d like to thank my readers and express how humbled I am that they read my work.
