Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a pretty boring person, honestly. I live more adventures in my head than out in the world, but maybe that’s par for the course with creative types. I write in my free time, or what little I have, between working an office job and parenting two kids on my own. I hope my kids grow up one day and see that their mom busted her ass to do what needed to be done, but she also followed her passions.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’ve always loved reading. As a kid I’d take 10-15 books home from the library a week during summer break. I’ve written for fun a lot over the years, but I never really thought being an author was something I’d do. I think I took the plunge because after reading so many books while my kids were in bed, I figured, why not jump back into writing? So here we are!

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Lorelai’s story is a mixture or random ideas and personal experience. One night I was brainstorming ideas for a fun story and decided that banshees could be fun to put a spin on, less scary creatures and more average woman with and unfortunate gift. Seriously, it would suck to see murders in your head.

Some of it is taken from my life. Lorelai’s douchey husband is based loosely on my own douchey ex-husband, and let me tell you, if you ever get the chance to model a shit character after an ex- do it. It’s incredibly cathartic.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on finishing the last couple of Chapters in Death and Other Calamities, the first book in Lorelai’s series, and plotting book two. I’ve got another book rattling around in my head, demanding I give it life, as well. I just wish I had more hours in a day- or that my kids slept better- so I had more time for writing!

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I always love the idea of writing in coffee shops, but I get so distracted there! I practically need complete silence while I’m writing. Sometimes I can’t even have music on in the background.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope people love Lorelai as much as I do, and that I can do her justice. I also hope I fall in love with being a planner, because as a writer who constantly flies by the seat of her pants, I have no idea where the hell my characters are going to end up. 😉

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

Well, as a newbie, the things that have helped me most so far have been my friendships with other indie authors, as well as a killer group of beta readers.

Also, invest in your dream and your talents! Spend a little bit of money on a beautiful cover, hire someone to edit for you, if you think you’re going to hate formatting, find someone to do that for you too!

Mostly I’d say that the indie authors in the reverse harem world are amazing. Don’t be afraid to make friends and find some community.

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

To my readers- I know it’s always a risk to get invested in a new writer, but I hope you take a chance on me, and on Lorelai and her guys. I also love connecting with you, so don’t hesitate to say hi in my group. I’ve made some awesome online friends in this community, and I think that’s one of the things I love most about the RH world.
