Author Emma Cole #interview

Please give a warm welcome to

Tell us a bit about yourself

I write under the pen name Emma Cole. Primarily I write RH but I don’t have any specific genre I stick to. I’m an indie author and currently have several books out. I’m a (newly) divorced mom of 4 littles (1, 4, 7, 10) and I live in the mountains in Montana, USA. I’m a HUGE reader, I go on binges and can read 2-3 a day if I have the time.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I’m not sure that I always thought “I want to be an author” when I was 7 or 8 I used to write little stories for my Aunt and one day she gave me this little miniature folder with a clipboard and writing pad and utensils in it. I think I actually have it floating around somewhere. I HAVE always loved books and reading since I was a toddler. I went to school to be a registered nurse and ended up doing homehealth and hospice for about 15 years before staying home when I had my 3rd kiddo and running a home health agency and the kids schedules got to be too much. About a year later I published my first book through KDP and since then have learned a ton and decided this is what I want to do.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

My inspiration varies. A lot are sparked by dreams and not just the sleeping kind. I’ll have full on daydreams with entire scenes that I jot down in a folder I have called “Snippets”. If it’s a particularly tenacious one from sleeping or awake I’ll write out the scenes then leave markers for what should happen around it and come back to them when I have a chance. I used to keep a dream journal and had someone find it once and ask where the rest of the stories were and they were floored when I told them they were dreams. All my stories have a little bit of “me” in them. Whether the tone it experiences or just the feelings surrounding a particular event.

What are you working on now?

#2 in the Dark Duet– Nightingale- the sequel to Lark A Dark Contemporary RH Trafficking Romance

The 3rd Episode in my Death Dealers Serial- A dark fantasy RH following Retta (the sin of Wrath)

I just finished a novella for Hearts of Darkness Anthology that I’ll extend this summer – Hit and Run – a dark paranormal bully romance

Do you have any quirks while writing?

My quirks are probably music. I can draft whole scenes with a song… but I have to pause it to write them. I also have what I dubbed “typing narcolepsy” I’ll randomly fall asleep mid sentence and wake up to a whole lot of random letters I have to delete.

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

My hope is to be able to make a career out of my writing and get to bring all the stories in my imagination to others to enjoy.

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

To new authors: If you love it, don’t stop, don’t give up. No matter if a spouse tells you it’s embarrassing (yep that happened), if someone says it’s not good enough, whatever someone else says ignore it. It’s your dream, not theirs. If you get bad reviews, try to learn from them. Find a “tribe” if you can, they’ll help you. Get an editor and beta readers and an arc team. Build your brand. And whatever you do, stay professional.

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

My readers are amazing. They give me the best feelings when I hear how they can’t wait for the next or like my posts or leave a review. Knowing that at least one person enjoyed what I wrote is so uplifting and VALIDATING. As my readership grows it’s surreal that so many are reading/wanting my stories and I feel guilty that I can’t get them out fast enough. Which in turn still gives me the warm and fuzzies because I know I’m doing something right!
