Author Emily Dawn #interview

Please give a warm welcome to

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m a mom of four, three boys and one badass baby girl (obviously, she’s got three older brothers she’s gotta be tough). I’m a voracious reader, everything from the classics to brand new indie authors. Aside from my love of reading and writing I also have a baking business I run. I do everything from birthday cakes to wedding cakes to cinnamon rolls and pies.

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I wrote frequently when I was a teenager. My parents gave me their old typewriter and I went to town. I forgot all about my love of writing in college and grad school but recently re-discovered it. Not to be super millennial here but my therapist suggested writing as way to do something just for me. When I started writing my first book I didn’t know if I’d actually try to publish it or just let it hang out in the depths of my computer.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

I’m inspired by so many things. I can’t pinpoint the exact thing that inspired my current series.

°

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on Sanctuary Book 2 of the Lenna Blakely Series. I’m also working on a paranormal romance which is as of now untitled. I’m also working on a dark contemporary reverse harem romance tentatively titled Shattered Starfire. I’m hoping to have two of them released before the end of the year.

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I don’t know if it’s a quirk but I make playlists for each book I’m working on. I also carry a big spiral notebook everywhere I go in case I’m up in my head and think of a good line of dialogue or a scene to write it down so I don’t forget.

°

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope that my books are read and enjoyed. A best seller would be nice but when I decided to go all in on this writing thing I said if even one person liked my book I’d be happy and that’s still true for me.

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

I’ve found that there are a ton of supportive indie authors out there. I reached out randomly to a couple authors who went above and beyond when I was looking for beta readers and needed help with other random things. So, I would tell new authors to not be afraid to reach out.

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I just want to say thank you for reading my book. I’m so appreciative of your support and encouragement.
