My husband killed me.
Then he screwed his way through the city, the only problem? I didn’t stay dead. It seems killing me woke something deep inside, something so dark and buried so deep I never knew it was there.
I don’t know what I am, I don’t really care. All I can think about is revenge, even as the monsters in the dark start to surround me. Their horns and black eyes, mouths filled with fangs claiming I am theirs.

Graphic Designer Raven #interview

Please give a warm welcome to graphic designer Raven

°

°

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi! 😊, my name is Raven. I’m a 20 year old book cover designer from the Netherlands!

°

°

Have you always wanted to become a artist/designer?

Actually, no. When I was younger I really (really really really) wanted to become a police officer and solve crimes haha! But when I was 12/13 years old I got the old laptop from my mom which had Photoshop CS3 on it and that’s how my journey with Photoshop and Book cover design started!

I’m currently also studying to become a designers (I study communication and multimedia design), so i’m not sure where time will bring me. But book cover design always has a special place in my heart and I will definitely keep doing it, cause it makes me happy and it has brought me where I am today!

°

°

Where do you find inspiration for your work?

Everywhere and nowhere, I get inspiration from looking at stock images, watching movies with beautiful scenes, browsing on pinterest, looking at what other designers are making, just living my life, etc.

°

What are you working on now?

I’m currently on a break because I really need to focus on school! So not a lot at the moment haha.

°

Do you have any quirks while working?

Ehm, no I don’t think so. I work a lot in the evening and at night. Sometimes even through the night! – but that’s never a good idea because i’ll be a zombie the next day haha 🧟. But next to that, I can’t come up with anything else!

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

Tough question and to be honest, I don’t really know! I’ll just see where live takes me. But of course I hope to be happy and to be doing what I love, which is designing and creating new things!

°

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

I’m not sure if I even have fans haha. But if there are people out there that love my work, I just want to say; ‘Thank you for your support and kind words, I would have never been able do this without you! I’m sending you all a virtual hug. 🥰’

Author Sariah Skye #interview

Please give a warm welcome to author Sariah Skye also writing under the name Lizzy Fox

Tell us a bit about yourself

This one is always hard for me since I’m a chronic over-sharer. But, let’s see… I’m in my 30s, from Minnesota where I’ve lived most of my life. I’m married with two kids and a dog. I’m a huge geek, swear too much, and am super awkward in real life. I love romance of all kinds, Star Trek, Doctor Who, and I’m obsessed with Imagine Dragons. I’m also super sarcastic but I’m not sarcastic about Imagine Dragons–I really am stupidly obsessed with them. LOL

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

Since I was five years old, yes. My mother and grandmother were readers and my grandmother wrote quite a bit as well, but she passed before she could get anything published. I literally don’t think I could do anything else.

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

Well I have quite a few projects going on, actually. A lot of inspiration comes from music or even a specific song, to some real-life experiences I’ve had, whatever. The Be Yours trilogy was inspired by my real-life struggles with depression and also by a song I’ve loved for years. The Infamous series was loosely inspired by my ridiculous adoration of a certain band, and The Fated Saga was inspired by World of Warcraft; they have dragons in the game that shape shift into humanoids and I thought that was super cool ten years ago. I’d never heard of dragon-shifters before. That’s pretty much the gist, it comes from anywhere and everywhere.

°

°

What are you working on now?

1) Wrapping up the Be Yours trilogy with Be Your Everything, and starting the spin off, an MM contemporary Be Your Mistake.

2) Finishing Fated Fury and the Fated Saga

3) Notorious, book #3 of The Infamous series

4) A couple of secret projects of existing characters

5) Shadow of Sherwood, my gender-bent RH Robin Hood retelling

°

°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Honestly I prefer to write from 9pm to 4am if I had my way; I’m more awake at night. I have big, long playlists where I put on my headphones and drown everyone else out (unsurprisingly, a lot of those songs are Imagine Dragons—NO, REALLY?!?!) Got to have my cherry Pepsi, and I absolutely cannot stand anyone looking over my shoulder. I’ll punch someone who does that. LOL

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

Stability, I suppose. I’d love to take all my work to multiple markets instead of just Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. I’d also love to hit the USAToday or New York Times lists, but with a solo title, otherwise I’d never know if it was my work people were buying for or someone else’s.

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

The best thing I can say is just be yourself. You’re going to come across a lot of people with a lot of advice, and some of it isn’t going to work with you. Sometimes those people might second guess your seriousness as an author, but that’s probably because they’re insecure with their own abilities.

Also: GOOD COVER. I really don’t think it’s wise for anyone, unless they are professional, to design their own covers. There are so many places to get decent, affordable covers. You can have the greatest story and the best editing and blurb in the world, but if your cover is awful, no one will ever know because they will pass right on buy. I think cover is the one thing you absolutely CANNOT skimp on. Some designers just starting out, needing to grow their portfolios will be very affordable, sometimes only $50 for custom. That’s super reasonable. I’ve seen so many good stories fail because their covers stink.

°

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

Hmm, I’m sure my readers would just prefer I don’t say anything at all because I blah blah blah too much all the time. But, I do hope they know how much I appreciate them, their support, when they share my books, talk about them, or message me. It’s a very tough, intimidating business, and “imposter” syndrome affects most of us. You don’t know when your message or kind words might be the motivation I have to keep going when I want to quit. ❤ (This goes for ALL authors!)

Also, I’m sorry for all the Imagine Dragons fangirling. Really, I am. 😛

Okay I’m not. But I love you all just the same!

Author Susie Clevenger #interview

Please give a warm welcome to poet/author Susie Clevenger

Tell us a bit about yourself

Goodness, I’m not sure where to start. I’m an author, poet, writer, amateur photographer, and a music junkie. My husband and I have a lot of friends who are musicians so we spend as much time as we can attending live music performances, even if it means we need to do some serious traveling to get to one.I also have a deep nature connection. I grew up in a small house surrounded by woods and lived most of my life outdoors. I learned the beauty of solitude, observation, listening, and the wonder of wildlife. In many ways it’s those early experiences that keeps me grounded now when life gets tough.

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

When I was a teenager, I thought about it, picked up the idea again in my late twenties, but I didn’t publish my first book until age 61. Ironically it was a car accident in 2006 where I suffered brain damage that brought me back to poetry, and serious consideration of writing a book. I entered an intersection on a bright sunny day as one person and was changed in seconds. A lot of me was/is still present, but memory gaps, personality changes, and ADD became the soup I’m forced to live in. Thank goodness I have a husband who has and continues to love me through all of it. As part of my self-rehabilitation I began writing poetry in 2009. All things writing blossomed from that point.

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book?

Ben Ditmars presented me with the idea of co-writing a poetry book that focused on how the experiences of our youth formed a foundation for who we are now. Our book Splinters is a bit humor, a bit survival, and a bit sarcastic. Our hope was/is when people read it, they realize some splinters go deep, but they don’t have to live in their wounds.

°

°

What are you working on now?

I’m going back and forth with what I want to do. I am considering an anthology of poems taken from my blog, Black Ink Howl, as well as including new poetry. My tag line under the blog title speaks my reason for creating the blog, “Venting the Orwellian Hand Maid’s Tale Psychotic of the current American Dream”. Also, I am tossing around the idea of turning my Twila series poems into a book. She is a thirteen-year-old who lives along the Atchafalaya river in Louisiana. Her generational gift of spirituality is a sort of dark coming of age story. This is a quote from one of the poems in the series, Night of River Bones,” The moon won’t come near the river when the Wailers rattle their spines against the cattails.”

°°

Do you have any quirks while writing?

I can’t write if there is any human noise, like talking, television, music with lyrics, etc. I need to be secluded in my tiny claustrophobic corner of a bedroom. I usually light incense, open the window shade (day or night), and sit down to a desk my father built. Oh, and on the right side of the desk is always a pile of poetry books.

°

What are your hopes for the future?

I could go off on religion and politics, but that is a dead-end history always reaches. I hope we humans wake up, stop destroying life, and learn war never brings peace.

°

°

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

It is a tough place to get a shoulder in. Dreams take hard work, but there is no expiration date. Believe in yourself. Always be willing to learn, appreciate critique, and keep a light on when those rejection letters roll in from publishers. If you choose to self-publish, there is a huge family in Independent publishing who are willing to help guide you through the process.

°

Do you have anything to say to your readers?

I appreciate everyone who reads my work. You are such a blessing to me, such a well of encouragement. I don’t know where I would be on this journey without you. Thank you so much.

☆ Grim ☆ by Scarlett Snow and Tiegan Clyne #NewRelease

— DEAD GIRL WALKING. —

What could be worse than getting hit by a bus? Waking up as Death’s new apprentice, that’s what.

I already know how crazy that sounds.

For 18 years, I was able to see the dead, so I pretty much managed to deal with a lot of unusual things in the world. I even learned to accept my strange, if not slightly annoying, ”I see dead people” ability. But the one thing that tipped me over the edge? I can’t drink coffee in the afterlife.

Not even a sip.

I know what you’re thinking. Surely things can’t get any worse than that? Well… I also have a rival apprentice who despises me, a quarterback ghost who won’t leave me the hell alone, a sexy angel determined to take me out on a date, and a silly little crush on my new boss.

Yeah, you read that last part right. I have an aimless crush on the Grim Reaper, and no, he isn’t a hooded skeleton clutching a scythe. He’s a gorgeous man in a tailor-made suit and every word he utters fills me with desire…just like the others do, despite my best efforts to resist them.

Unfortunately, a pack of demons are now interfering with the human world, and Death has tasked me with putting an end to them. At least, that’s what I tell myself, as I quite possibly make the worst decisions of my entire life…

Death’s Apprentice is a Reverse Harem Urban Fantasy. This series is a slow-burn romance filled with an extreme amount of dark humor, sarcasm, mystery, and a talking dog who is totally judging Sacha’s bad decisions in life. Buckle up, and get ready to join Sacha on her soul-reaping journey…and perhaps a little detour into Hel.

°
Tell us a bit about yourself.

Thanks for inviting me to your blog, Helle.

I’m originally from the suburbs of Philadelphia. After high school, I lived in New York City for ten years where I worked in the radio industry for quite a while. It’s a long story, but I first moved out to Los Angeles many years ago where I worked for a couple of studios as an assistant. I then moved back East, where I worked as a freelance writer and resume specialist, and have now been back in Los Angeles for nine years.

These days, once in a while, I work as a SAG background actor. Oh, and I write books. And that’s the very short version of my life story.

°

°

Have you always wanted to become an author?

I started writing as soon as I learned the difference between the lead point and the eraser on a pencil. But I wasn’t always sure what I wanted to write. For a while, I thought I wanted to be a playwright, then a screenwriter. But after writing nine books, I know that writing fiction in the form of a book is by far what suits me best.

°

°

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

My current book, Hotel Obscure, is a book of seventeen themed short stories that take place in a run-down hotel in an unnamed city. I really love writing literary fiction and I wanted to work with an eclectic cast of characters and story lines all within the space of one book. It presented unique challenges, but was very stimulating and rewarding at the same time.

One of the challenges, for example, was to make sure that the stories appear in the right order, as some reference events in other stories. Also, I needed to be certain that I didn’t write details in one story that contradicted what I wrote in another. One of the rewards in writing Hotel Obscure was that some of the same characters appeared in multiple stories and I was able to continue seemingly finished stories in surprising ways. And yes, many of those ways surprised me!

°

°

What are you working on now?

Right now, I’m editing a romantic comedy and preparing to give it to my editor soon. This is my second RomCom and it takes pace in the same town as my first romantic comedy, Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! That said, this book is neither a sequel nor a series. What is a bit different, however, and definitely great fun, was that I used characters from Molly in supporting roles. But I made very sure that I didn’t give away the ending of Molly.

°

°
Do you have any quirks while writing?

I don’t know if I’d classify anything as a quirk, but unlike some writers, I can’t write with music playing. I have to have quiet so I can hear the words. I also find that I do a better job when I’m awake. Being asleep, however, has its perks: I’ve dreamed many a plot twist and important elements for my current work in progress.

°

°

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to find inspiration for many more stories, and like most authors I know, I’d like to have a growing and appreciative readership. In terms of my writing life, I’m more focused on the immediate future. I find it too stressful when I think that far ahead. But on a much larger scale, my writing aside, I hope the world will become a better place.

°

°
Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

First and foremost: don’t rush a book to publication because you’re eager to see it out there and to call yourself a published author. Take care to get the best cover you can and have your book professionally edited. I know that it is a financial impossibility for some (not easy for me), but there are ways to work around these hurdles. I know some authors who are able to self-edit very well, but even they have help in some areas to check their work. Do your best. It will almost definitely be a longer process than you expect, but you won’t regret getting it right the first time.

°

°
Do you have anything to say to your readers?

First, I’d like to say that I appreciate each and every person who gives my books a chance. I know there is no book, movie, song, artist, place, food, person etc. etc. that will appeal to everyone. Taste is subjective.

Second, readers looking at my books will notice that I write in several genres, from romantic comedies to YA Paranormal to women’s fiction to literary fiction. Sure, those genres are quite different and the books are too. But at the same time, I have writing styles that are present in every single book. I write character-driven stories and I always have multiple story arcs of some kind. I also like revealing secrets and giving readers satisfying endings.

°

°
Oh, and one more thing: my 1970s coming-of-age novel, Squalor, New Mexico, has absolutely nothing to do with New Mexico.

°
It’s been fun. Thanks, Helle!
