Please give a warm welcome to author Lyla Oweds
Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Lyla Oweds, and I’ve been a published author for less than a year. So I’m a newbie in the game. I have various interest and past working history, all of which I use in my writing. I used to be a nurses’ aide, then went to massage therapy school. I worked as a therapist for a few years, with a specialty in acupressure and Asian bodywork. So I studied Traditional Chinese Medicine intensely. It was during that time when I dabbled with the idea for my current series.
After that, I went to school with a dual major of pre-med/psychology, and, instead, ended up (almost finished now) with my degree in anthropology. But, instead of any of that, I work as a user experience web programmer during the day.
I’m a single mother to little girl, and have a bird and a cat. So my hands are full.
Have you always wanted to become an author?
I’ve always had ideas. I plotted things out, created outlines, dreamed. But I never had any confidence in my writing skills. I’ve always been a reader, and spent too much time comparing myself to others. It wasn’t until I started writing fanfiction that I started planning on actually writing a novel.
What was your inspiration for your current book/series?
Before I even knew what Reverse Harem was–over ten years ago–I had the general plot for The Grimm Cases in my head. Of course, there were a lot of differences. But I knew I wanted to create a series with main characters based off of the five elements.
What are you working on now?
The Grimm Cases book four, Hidden. And also the first book of The Red Trilogy, Rising Sun.
Do you have any quirks while writing?
I would say listening to music, but I’ve learned to keep my ears open for a toddler and try to ignore Disney Jr.
What are your hopes for the future?
To have a lot of people read and love my series.
Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?
Always be willing to take advice.
Do you have anything to say to your readers?
I love my readers so much, thank you all. ❤
