Please give a warm welcome to author Serena Akeroy

Tell us a bit about yourself

Gah, I’m always useless with these questions because I’m utterly boring. ο˜‚
The best thing about me is that I have a weird ass imagination, several muses who keep me awake at night, the best mom in the world–seriously, she still does my laundry ;)–and then the best pooch too! His name is Trever, and he’s a little monster!

Have you always wanted to become an author?

No, actually. LOL. I wanted to be a teacher, then I realized I’m not that great with kids so it would be a crappy choice of career for me. When I was about 16, life shifted, and around about this time, I discovered romance books. I’d always been into crime and the classics before then, and ta-da, I discovered Harlequin. From there, I just knew I wanted to write romance. I’ve been working toward that goal ever since.

What was your inspiration for your current book/series?

This is really hard to answer because I have around 8 active series at any one time. The book I’m working on today is inspired by a whole host of things. I have a love for mafia romance and this book is founded in that world. It’s smutty and sexy and filthy and I’m in love with my hero!

What are you working on now?

So, it’s the aforementioned book, and it’s the second part of the duet. It’s titled SCREW ME, haha, abrupt and to the point, no? πŸ˜‰ Finn is like that, though. πŸ˜€ He’s nasssty but in the BEST way! πŸ˜€

Do you have any quirks while writing?

Ugh, I’m very unhealthy when I’m writing and that’s all the time so that means I’m unhealthy all the time! I’m trying to get back into yoga but my sleep schedule is all over the place, too. I’m trying to develop healthier quirks. LOL. But it’s easier said than done when I’m in the middle of yin yoga and I’m trying to focus on my breathing when all my brain is doing is thinking about the next scene I have to write.

What are your hopes for the future?

This is surprisingly difficult for me to answer. My hopes are to carry on writing books that people love to read. I would love for more people to be aware of them, and generally, just to have a bigger fan base so that I never have to do anything other than write and live this crazy life of mine. I would also, nuts as it seems, love to see one of my books become a TV series or something. I know that’s a MAHOOSIVE goal, but I’d be so curious as to how someone else could convey my story to the screen. πŸ˜€

Do you have any advice for new authors about the publishing world?

To trust your voice. Don’t worry if you don’t do things the ‘normal’ way. So, to me, writing is like a sport. You have to train. This week, I wrote 84,000 words. A number that blows my own mind! I didn’t know I could even do that, but this story has flowed so well and I’m loving every minute of writing it. It’s only do-able though because I’ve trained. I do sprints and I’m constantly working on writing better and faster. If you can’t write every day, just set a word count goal. Push your limits because, to my mind, the story that comes out is intense!

Also, invest in editors. Always. Never publish anything that hasn’t been touched by at least two other people.

Do you have anything to say to your fans?

Only that I love you. πŸ˜€ Seriously. All these stories that are stored in my head are allowed to come to life because of you guys, so thank you β™‘
